Biathlon
What is the name of the biathlete who has the most individual Biathlon World Cup competition wins to his name (any discipline except relays)? | Men's Biathlon
Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. Ole Einar Bjoerndalen is a sporting Goliath, but a very nice, caring and modest man aswell. His great rivals are Poiree and Greis, but they have been nowhere near as successful. Mike Dixon was a good biathlete in is own right, and certainly the best that Britain has ever produced, but he was never as good as the other three.
Which German biathlete won 3 Gold Medals at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, the best performance of any athlete? | Men's Biathlon
Michael Greis. Greis, surprisingly for some did better than anyone else at the 2006 Winter Olympics, although it was not just Bjoerndalen, but the whole of the Norwegian team, who underperformed in Turin. Roesch and Gross helped Greis to gold in the relay, but were nowhere near as good individually.
Frode Andresen. Frode Andresen is not known for his shooting prowess, especially under the pressure of the final leg of a relay. The others were all established anchormen, although Bjoerndalen is still racing.
In which year did Raphael Poiree last win the Overall World Cup? | Men's Biathlon
2003/4. Bjoerndalen and Poiree have really fought it out since the late 1990s, although there are now other people, such as Michael Greis, who are closing in on their dominance. Poiree has now retired, but his final race was one of the most thrilling finishes ever, comparing only with that of Deyzemlya's Mass Start mentioned above.
How many Olympic Gold Medals (including relays) has Ole Einar Bjoerndalen won? | Men's Biathlon
5. It is surprising that a man as successful as Bjoerndalen has not taken more Olympic Golds, although it was phenomenal when he took the clean sweep of Gold Medals at Salt Lake City in 2002. He got 4 Golds at Salt Lake City, and 1, in the sprint at Nagano in 1998. Although he medaled at Turin, he did not get another gold. Bjoerndalen has 9 Olympic medals.
Ole Einar Bjoerndalen has won more World Cup Competitions (including biathlon and Cross-country) than Ingemar Stenmark did in Alpine Skiing? | Men's Biathlon
f. Stenmark has 86 wins. Bjoerndalen had 74 in Biathlon and 1 in Cross-country.
Bjoerndalen was the first biathlete to have won a Cross-country skiing World Cup event? | Men's Biathlon
Yes. It was a 15 km freestyle event. Bjoerndalen is a phenomenal athlete, and definitely my favourite biathlete. Lars Berger, also of Norway, won a Cross-country world championship, also a 15 km freestyle in Sapporo 2007.
