Christmas Tree. A starter with a flag started the race before the 'tree' came about.
Brandon Bernstein. The NHRA was 50 years old before Kenny (Top Fuel) and Brandon (Top Alcohol) became the first father and son to win at the same national event at the first Las Vegas event in 2001. They repeated the feat at the second Chicago event that year.
Gary Densham. Gary spent 30 years as an auto shop teacher at Gahr High School in Cerritos, California.

1953 Kenworth. Cruz started off in some rather "funny" cars. In his career he has been a go kart racer, and in 2005 he drove a midget car owned by NASCAR star Tony Stewart and World of Outlaws driver Danny Lasoski in the Chili Bowl. Somehow it seems almost natural that he would have chalked up his first drag racing win in a big rig.
Air bypass valve. Excess boost on superchargers is vented by an electrically controlled air bypass valve. Waste gates and blow-off valves vent excess boost on turbochargers.
Engine valley. OHV engines are popular with drag racers for there ability to take more abuse and punishment than OHC engines.
Analog. An analog ignition signal is required so that ignition voltage can be adjusted.
Twin electronic distributors. Top Fuel and Funny Cars used Twin electronic distributors that produce over 3,500 sparks during every run. This achieved maximum fuel burn-off.
