Christmas Tree. A starter with a flag started the race before the 'tree' came about.
Brandon Bernstein. The NHRA was 50 years old before Kenny (Top Fuel) and Brandon (Top Alcohol) became the first father and son to win at the same national event at the first Las Vegas event in 2001. They repeated the feat at the second Chicago event that year.
Gary Densham. Gary spent 30 years as an auto shop teacher at Gahr High School in Cerritos, California.
Jason Line. Jason also spent several years as a tuner and dyno specialist at Joe Gibbs Racing. He later worked at Ken Black Racing as motor turner and dyno specialist.

Karen Stoffer. Karen uses all that education in her job with Bentley Nevada, a manufacturer of plant asset management equipment and power generation monitoring technologies.
Jerry Tolliver. Jerry is also a former power boat racer. Del is, of course, the son of Chuck Worsham, a former Funny Car driver and his car owner. Eric Medlen drives a car whose crew chief is his father, John Medlen. Robert Hight is Funny Car driver and car owner John Force's son-in-law.
Bob Vandergriff, Jr.. Bob Vandergriff, Jr., who majored in business administration at the University of Utah, also spent some time as vice president of the Atlanta drag strip.
Ron Krisher. Warren Johnson may be "The Professor", but he and the other Pro Stock drivers were taken to school by Ron Krisher in 2002. Not only did he make the field at all 23 events, he led Pro Stock by taking the top qualifying spot 8 times that year.
Antron Brown. While a number of Pro Stock Bike pilots enjoy motocross racing as a hobby, only Antron had a lengthy professional career riding a dirt bike.
Larry Dixon. Larry Dixon, Sr. was also a Top Fuel driver, and in 1970 he was the Winternationals Top Fuel winner. Larry, Jr. started his career in the pits before becoming a Top Fuel driver for Don "The Snake" Prudhomme.

1953 Kenworth. Cruz started off in some rather "funny" cars. In his career he has been a go kart racer, and in 2005 he drove a midget car owned by NASCAR star Tony Stewart and World of Outlaws driver Danny Lasoski in the Chili Bowl. Somehow it seems almost natural that he would have chalked up his first drag racing win in a big rig.
Air bypass valve. Excess boost on superchargers is vented by an electrically controlled air bypass valve. Waste gates and blow-off valves vent excess boost on turbochargers.
Engine valley. OHV engines are popular with drag racers for there ability to take more abuse and punishment than OHC engines.
Analog. An analog ignition signal is required so that ignition voltage can be adjusted.
Twin electronic distributors. Top Fuel and Funny Cars used Twin electronic distributors that produce over 3,500 sparks during every run. This achieved maximum fuel burn-off.
