Hockey
Lisa Carruthers and Katrina Powell. Triny and Lisa (and their family) had one of the hockey feilds at the AIS named after them -at the Lyneham Hockey Centre- for the Powell family's contribution to the game of hockey.
Angie Skirving. Angie was 19 yrs old. She's from Queensland.
Perth. How many of you answered Canberra because the AIS is there?
Rechelle Hawkes . Rechelle has played in the Australian team for 15 years.
Three. They were won in Seoul 1988, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000.
Richard Charlesworth . Ric Charlesworth played hockey for Australia, cricket for New South Wales and is a qualified doctor.
3-1. Argentina won its first Olympic hockey medal in Sydney.
Argentina. Australia played Argentina twice at the 2000 Olympics both times the scoreline was identical.
279. Rechelle passed Sharon Buchanan's long held mark for most capped in 1997 and is also the first player to have played 200 games for Australia. A scorer of 49 goals, she retired after the 2000 Olympics. She had the honour of reading the Athletes Oath at the Opening Ceremony.

When you take the hit, the other team gets it and starts dribbling down the field. You try to get the ball back and you start trying to use your stick to get the ball away. Then the whistle blows. What did you do? | Field Hockey

You were hacking. Hacking is when a player has the ball, and a player from the other team is constantly trying to get the ball by hitting at it, hitting the other player's stick, and smacking at the ball.

Drive it. Most of the time, the girl taking the free hit drives it, because when you take a free hit, you want to send it as far as you can.

Someone was advancing. Advancing is probably the easiest foul to commit. If the ball bounces off your foot and you continue to play it, the other team will be awarded a free hit.

Behind the center.. The sweeper is kind of like a wing, except in the middle of the field.
turf/grass. It is played outside on turf or grass. It is usually played on turf because the ball rolls better, and the grass fields get chopped up easily. Wood would be scratched by the sticks, and gravel would damage the sticks.
Scotland. It was first played in the Scottish highlands in the 1700s. It used to be called Shinty.
3. The sweep hit is getting down really low to sweep your stick along the ground. The push pass is to push the ball to a teammate. Your stick does not make a sound when you do this. The most common type of hit is the drive. This is like an ice hockey slapshot.
Obstruction. Obstruction is when you block somebody from getting to the ball, whether intentionally or not. You can turn your back to a player, but you have to be moving your feet and the ball if you have it.
flat side only. The referee will call a foul if they use the back (curved) side of their stick. Players have to flip their stick over instead. Players can use most of the flat side of the stick, as long as the ball does not touch their hands.
Umpires. There are usually two umpires, one for each side of the field. Some games have more than two.
Unlimited times. A team can make a substitution as many times as they want too during a game. They can do it at any time, even while the ball is in play. Teams have to be very careful not to have too many players on the field, so usually they wait until the player coming off is almost at the sideline before the new player comes on.
11. Field hockey is much closer to soccer than ice hockey. There are ten players on the field plus the goalie.
2-1. Australia dominated the finals, with Ockenden and Doerner scoring. Furste was the lone scorer for Germany.
Pakistan. Pakistan finished Pool B with 3 points, and lost to Canada 3-2 in the battle for 11th place.
Germany, England, Australia, Netherlands. Germany finished top of Pool A with 11 points, with the Netherlands finishing 2nd with 10 points. Australia and England finished with 12 points each, with Australia leading the table on superior goal difference.
Luke Doerner and Taeke Taekema. Luke Doerner (Australia) and Taeke Taekema (Netherlands) scored 8 goals each. Jamie Dwyer (Australia) scored 4, Rajpal Singh (India) scored 2, Sohail Abbas(Pakistan) scored 2, Florian Fuchs (Germany) scored 3, Max Muller (Germany) scored 1, and Julian Hykes (South Africa) scored 1.
12. 10 teams competed in the first World Cup tournament held at the Real Polo Grounds in Barcelona, Spain in 1971. Since 1978, the tournament has been held every 4 years.

Netherlands and Germany. The Netherlands won twice as hosts in 1973 (beating India 4-2 after a penalty shoot out) and again in 1998.
Germany won their first world title in 2002 and as hosts in 2006. They were only the second country to do this after Pakistan won in 1978 and 1982.

Pakistan. Coming into the World Cup, India was ranked 12th in the world, whereas Pakistan was 3rd. Shivendra Singh, Sardar Singh, and Prabhjot Singh scored for India, whereas Sohail Abbas scored the lone goal for Pakistan off a penalty corner. After the match, Shivendra Singh (India) was slapped with a two-match suspension, and Irfan (Pakistan) with a one-match suspension.
