CCHA. Michigan and Michigan State broke off from the WCHA (Western Collegiate Hockey Association) to join the CCHA (Central Collegiate Hockey Association) in 1980. There never was a conference called the Big Ten hockey conference, though there was, at a time, a WCHA comprised of all Big Ten teams, and there never was a Midwest hockey conference.

Jordan Leopold. Leopold won the Hobey Baker (player of the year) in 2001-2002 as a defenseman. Pohl was the nation's leading scorer in that season, Vanek was a star for the Gophers in the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 season, and Broten won the first Hobey Baker award in 1980-1981.

Michigan. Michigan won the championship 5 times in 6 years from 1951 to 1956. Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute (RPI) won the championship in 1954. Boston U won back to back in 1971-72, and Denver won back to back in 1968-69. Both Boston and Denver failed to even make it to the championship game in the following seasons.
North Dakota. The arena was opened on October 5, 2001.

Jimmie Howard. Howard, who played for the Maine Blackbears, put up an impressive .956% save percentage and a 1.19 GAA. He was drafted 64th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2003 NHL entry draft. Rick DiPietro made 77 saves in one game. Ryan Miller set a career shutout record with 26, and Robb Stauber set a career saves mark at 1,711.
Gordie Peterkin. Peterkin scored an amazing 13 points in one game, tallying 4 goals and 9 assists for Rensselaer in 1952 vs. Springfield. The final score of the game was 18-0. Although NCAA hockey was not as competative back then, leading to some pretty severe mismatches, 13 points is still an impressive number which may never be broken.

Shorthanded goals. While playing for Michigan in the middle and late 1990s, Madden broke the record for both single season and career shorthanded goals, 10 and 23 respectively.

Blaine Lacher. Playing for Lake Superior State in 1994, Lacher amassed a jaw dropping 375 straight minutes without letting a puck past him. That's just shy of 19 periods, or more than 6 full games in a row. To give some perspective, the great NHL goaltender Ken Dryden's best streak was 168 minutes, less than half of Lacher's record. This was while playing for a Cornell team that was so dominant, they had a record of 105-4-1 over a period of 4 years!

Marty Turco. Steve Shields directly preceded Turco at Michigan and won 111 games. Karl Goehring had 80 wins for North Dakota. Garth Snow won 66 for Maine, but had the highest winning percentage thanks to the 1993 team which showcased future NHL stars Paul Kariya and Mike Dunham.
