That leaves 81 which is obviously the amount of points scored. The way the points system works in the NHL is you get 2 points for any win and 1 point for any loss in overtime or shootout. 76 of the Devils 81 points came from wins, the remaining 5 points came from loses in OT or shootout. This was the least amount of points they have scored in a single season since 1990-91 when they scored 79 pts, except for the lockout shortened 1994-95 season where they won their first Stanley Cup.
