 Tampa Bay Rays
1998. In 1998, they went 63-99, 51 games back of the division winner.

4. Midre Cummings hit two, Rey Sanchez hit two, and Joey and Travis hit 0. For the whole Devil Rays team, they hit 135 home runs. On March 9th, 1995, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays officially became a MLB team along with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
On April 27th, 1995 St.Petersburg and the D'Rays agreed on a 30-year lease for them to play home games at the ThunderDome.
On October 3rd, 1996, Tropicana Field was born. The D'Rays and Tropicana Dole Beverages of North America, of Bradenton, Florida, announced an agreement to rename the ThunderDome Tropicana Field.
Yes. Aubrey Lewis Huff was probably the most productive of the D'Rays roster. He made his MLB debut on August 2nd, 2000, as a D'Ray. In the 2004 season with the D'Rays he had 92 runs scored, 178 hits, 27 doubles, and 29 home runs. He also hit a total of 104 runs batted in. The closest one to him was Jose Cruz with 78.
Carl Crawford . He had a total of 626 at-bats, and at second place was Aubrey Huff who had 600. One of the young ones on the Devil Rays, Carl Demonte Crawford was born on August 5th, 1981. He was a three-sport star at Jefferson Davis High School in Houston, TX in baseball, football, and basketball. In the 2004 season, he slugged .450, had 19 triples, and 55 RBIs.
Five. The five shortstops are B.J Upton, Julio Lugo, Rey Sanchez, Jorge Cantu, and Charles Gipson. B.J Upton played 45 games in the 2004 season, while Julio Lugo played 157, making him the normal starter.
Cincinnati Reds . Rob Bell played his first season (the 2000 season) with the Cincinnati Reds. In 2001, he played half the season with the Reds and half the season with the Texas Rangers. Finally, after the 2002 season, he was traded to the Devil Rays.

Longoria, Crawford, and Percival. In early August, Evan Longoria suffered a broken wrist, and Carl Crawford tore a tendon in his finger. A week later, Rays closer Troy Percival went out with knee and hamstring related problems.
Joe Maddon. Joe Maddon was hired in the 2006 season, and took them from their last place season in 2007, to their first place finish in 2008.
James Shields. The Rays' 2008 opening game was on March 31, and they won 6-2 against the Baltimore Orioles. Shields went on to go 14-8 for the season.

Ben Zobrist. After Barlett was injured, two-year player Ben Zobrist filled the gap for him, playing very well and earning himself a place on the Rays roster. He played in 62 games and hit 12 home runs.
