Venus Williams
Quarterfinals. Venus made it to the quarters of the French Open where she lost to eventual winner Anastasia Myskina of Russia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Serena Williams. At the 2002 Wimbledon Championships, when Serena advanced to the finals to face Venus, she had taken over Venus' #1 spot in the rankings regardless of the results of the final. Venus was the first ever African American female to become #1 in the world.

Arantxa Sanchez-Vicarrio. At the Oakland tournament in 1994, Venus came out strong and took the first set easily at 6-2. She was up a break in the second set when Sanchez-Vicarrio pulled her game together, and took the match 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.
Karolina Sprem. Venus lost to the Croatian 6-7(5) 6-7(6), in a very controversial match where the Chair Umpire awarded Sprem an extra point without noticing.
Pam Shriver. Pam and Venus became good friends through the mentoring system. In one of their first matches together, Pam and Venus teamed up to take on Serena and Zina Garrison in an exhibition match, and Venus and Pam won.
