Alice
Alice. Mel had a crush on Alice in an early episode, but she did not return the feelings. All of the other waitresses had a crush on Mel (or dated him) at one time or another.
Alabama. In an early episode, Flo told Tommy's study date that her Alabama accent reminded her of growing up in Alabama. Flo's home town was later changed to Cowtown, Texas.
Jimmy Joe. Rodeo rider Jimmy Joe Castleberry wanted to marry Alice, but his horse Beatrice did not approve. Thank goodness for small favors.
Coffee. Flo gave up coffee...or at least, she tried to...for a weekend.
A Piano. Elliott's parents gave them a piano...which Elliott refused to stop playing.
Company. Beth Howland, who played Amy in the classic Sondheim musical, Company, appeared in a documentary which chronicled the recording of that show's soundtrack album. Her feature number, 'Getting Married Today,' appears on the soundtrack.
Polly Holliday. Polly Holliday played a mean old lady who ran afoul of the gremlins in this 80s megahit.
Beth Howland. A very young Beth Howland appeared as a dancer in the musical film, 'Lil Abner.' She looks exactly the same--but you'll have to look closely. Blink, and you'll miss her.
Cow creamers. Mel gave Alice, Vera, and Jolene each a cow creamer with a check tucked inside.
Florence Jean Castleberry . Whenever Flo talked about her mother she always said her mother called her, Florence Jean Castleberry.
Jolene Hunnicutt. Celia Weston did a wonderful job as Jolene Hunnicutt. She replaced Belle Dupree. It must have been hard to step into a show that already was on the air for so long.
Marvin Kaplan. Marvin Kaplan played Henry. Remember Henry? He worked for the telephone company. Later his wife gave birth to twins.
Chili. Mel's Diner and Mel himself were famous for chile. Mel, along with Alice, Flo, and Vera even went on a show to make the chili. Of course Mel froze.

$5,000 farewell bonuses. Mel gave each of the girls $5,000 farewell bonuses. It seems that was just as well because Jolene was planning to quit so she can open a beauty salon, Vera was pregnant and planning on being a full time mother, and Alice was FINALLY going to Nashville as the lead singer of a band.
202. "Alice" first aired on August 31, 1976 and last aired on July 2, 1985. The series had a total of 202 episodes.

Flo. Florence Jean Castleberry had her very own show. The show didn't last long.
Elliot Novak. Charles Levin played the very funny Elliot Novak. I'm glad someone finally married Vera. She deserved some happiness.
