    Amazing Race 13

Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 2?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

Anthony and Stephanie. After the Road Block, teams were told to taxi through the city of Fortaleza to the next Pit Stop, the name of which they would find during their final task: Cidade Di Crianca. Although Mark and Bill were the first to leave the Road Block, Ken and Tina were the first to make it to the Pit Stop winning an off-road vehicle each. In the end it was Anthony and Stephanie, who were plagued with bad taxi problems early on, who became the last team to arrive becoming the second team eliminated from the race.

During the Road Block task in Leg 2, what did teams need to locate?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

The name of their next Pit Stop. Teams reaching the clue box at the Parque de Vaquejada received their first Road Block task of the race. For this, the teams needed to choose one person who would be able to search the adjacent six hundred foot wall of advertisements for the one destination of their next Pit Stop. Teams were told not to over think the task by looking at the hundreds of ads surrounding their correct answer. Members completing this task were Tina, Sarah, Bill, Nick, Toni, Aja, Anthony, Christy, Andrew and Marisa.

What did teams need to transport in the 'Beach It' Detour task in Leg 2?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

Boats. In 'Beach It', participating teams needed to head along the coast in their dune buggies and transport a four-hundred-forty pound sailboat from the ocean to an inlet one hundred yards away using nothing more than logs in a traditional local method. All of the teams except Mark and Bill completed this physical Detour option and continued onward. After this task, teams were instructed to travel by taxi to Parque de Vaquejada for their next clue.

Which team completed the 'Docket' Detour task in Leg 2?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

Mark and Bill. Arriving at Praca Do Combuco, teams made their way to the beach to hop into dune buggies which would drive them to their next clue box at the Barraca d Manoel in Cauipe. Once the shopkeeper handed them their next clue, they would need to pick a Detour task. In 'Docket', teams needed to locate a local port and search through computer databases to find a significant seven digit number listed in their clue. They then needed to locate the particular shipping container in the shipyard outside to find their next clue. Only Mark and Bill finished this task.

Beginning Leg 2, teams were told to go to Fortaleza in what country?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

Brazil. Although teams remained in Brazil for the second leg of the race, they were required to fly from the city of Salvador six hundred miles to Fortaleza, Brazil, further north along the Atlantic coast. Once there, teams needed to hop into a taxi to locate the village of Cumbuco and their clue box at the Praca Do Combuco. Although there were ten teams, all of them managed to catch the same early flight to Fortleza Airport and were neck and neck throughout.

Which team was the first to be eliminated from the race?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

Anita and Arthur. After the Detour teams needed to head to the nearby waterfront and take a boat directly to their first Pit Stop, the Forte de Sao Marcelo built on an island in the water. Nick and Starr were quick to find a boat to take them directly there after the Detour and placed first in this first leg winning a trip for two to Belize courtesy of Travelocity. Unfortunately, Anita and Arthur, the oldest couple on the race, were the first to be eliminated after falling behind before and after the Detour task.

How many teams completed the 'Soft Way Down' Detour task in Leg 1?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

Ten. Since only Andrew and Dan completed 'Hard Way Up' in Leg 1, all of the remaining ten teams finished 'Soft Way Down' in which both members needed to find a marked elevator in the Elevador Lacerda in Salvador and harness themselves up at the top to climb down a cargo net back to the ground, a total of two hundred and forty feet. Once both members safely reached the ground they would receive their next clue leading them directly to the first Pit Stop. Only three teams could be on the cargo net at one time, so teams had to deal with a first-come-first-served basis.

Which team completed the 'Hard Way Up' Detour task of Leg 1?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

Andrew and Dan. Departing from the military base in the morning, teams were told to take a taxi to Igreja da Ordem Terceira de Sao Francisco in Pelourinho where they would find their next clue. This turned out to be a Detour task, their first in the race. Only Andrew and Dan completed the 'Hard Way Up' Detour option in which they needed to climb a set of stairs at the Escadaria do Passo on their hands and knees. Once at the top, teams would need to answer a secret question pertaining to the number of steps climbed, but they would not know the question until they reached the top. Once they answered 'fifty-three' they would receive their next clue. If teams answered wrong, they'd need to take the streets nearby back to the bottom to try again.

To which city in Brazil did teams travel in Leg 1 of the race?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

Salvador. Once in Salvador, Brazil, teams were told to take a taxi through the city to find o Rei do Pernil Sandwich Shop where they could complete their next task. For this task, teams needed to deliver a cart of sales goods through the streets and up a funicular to a man waiting for them in the Praca da Se. Once teams wheeled their unwieldy cart to the proper man, they could continue on with the race by taking a taxi to a military base known as 19 Batalhao de Cacadores. Here, they would need to sign in and take a departure time for the next morning. They would spent the nights sleeping outside in bug nets.

From which American city did teams commence "The Amazing Race 13"?"The Amazing Race" 13.1

Los Angeles. Eleven teams made their way to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum's field to begin a race around the world. Opening their clues, teams were instructed to drive through the city, then pick one of two flights to their next destination, Brazil, at LAX International Airport leaving that afternoon. With this in mind, six teams arrived earlier into their Brazilian locale than the five proceeding teams. This was the fifth time that the race began in the Los Angeles area in the history of the show (and certainly not the last).

In Leg 10, which was the only team to complete the 'Ride the Rails' Detour option in Moscow?Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

Nick and Starr. In Leg 10, teams were handed their Detour clue at Sokolniki Park forcing them to choose from two options revolving around Moscow's transit system: 'Ride the Rails' and 'Ride the Lines'. Nick and Starr completed 'Ride the Rails' in which they took Moscow's subway system through the city collecting items and navigating to a number of different locations. Ken and Tina and Andrew and Dan finished 'Ride the Lines' which involved locating spots on Moscow's trolley line. After this task, teams headed to the race's final Pit Stop: VDNKh Park. Toni and Dallas started working on the 'Ride the Lines' option, but were eliminated halfway through as they had lost their passports.

In Leg 9, teams chose either 'Boots' or which other Detour option in Russia?Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

'Borscht'. In Leg 9, teams took taxis to Kolosok Camp, a decommissioned military base outside the city of Moscow, where they found a Detour task. For this, teams needed to choose between 'Boots' and 'Borscht', both of which required that teams don military garb. After suiting up into military attire, teams choosing 'Boots' needed to learn a straight-forward military march which needed to be performed around a parade route. Toni and Dallas, Ken and Tina, and Nick and Starr completed this task. Andrew and Dan, who completed 'Borscht', needed to serve bowls of borscht to seventy-five waiting soldiers. After this task, teams headed to Zhukovsky Bakery for their next task.

What did teams need to drink in the 'Act Like Fools' Detour option in Leg 8 in Kazakhstan? Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

Milk. In Leg 8, teams received a Detour clue from a Golden Eagle at Kok Tobe Arch and all participating teams completed 'Act Like Fools' in which they traveled to a nearby puppet theater to don a two-man cow costume. They then traveled through the streets of Almaty to find a milk stall where the front team member needed to drink the milk to find the location of their next destination, a butcher stall, on the bottom. They then needed to take the cow outfit to the Pit Stop, Old Square, on foot. In 'Play Like Mad', teams would've needed to learn how to play two traditional musical instruments (the dombra and the shang-kobuz) and perform on the streets to earn money before heading to the Pit Stop. Nick and Starr did not need to complete this Detour having won the second and final Fast Forward of the race.

In Leg 7, which was the only team to complete the 'Teary Eyed' Detour option in India?Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

Terence and Sarah. Continuing through Delhi, India in Leg 7, teams found a Detour clue at the Charity Birds Hospital in Jain Mandir. Here, they chose between 'Teary Eyed' and 'Bleary Eyed'. In 'Teary Eyed', which was only completed by Terence and Sarah, teams needed to carry two large sacks of chilies a quarter of a mile to a spice shop where they needed to crush a certain amount of chilies into powder to claim their next clue. In 'Bleary Eyed', the other five teams located a specific intersection and followed a marked power line through a market identifying numbered tags. When they got the correct number sequence, they would need to plug an electrical device into a socket at a nearby shop to claim the clue leading to the Pit Stop, Humayun's Tomb.

Traveling to New Zealand in Leg 4, how many teams actually completed the 'Matter of Time' Detour option?Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

Three. Teams headed out from Auckland, New Zealand to find a Detour task in Te Puke. Here, teams could choose either 'Matter of Time' or 'Matter of Skill'. In 'Matter of Time', teams traveled to a local kiwi orchard to stomp kiwis in traditional basins (in which the bottoms would be lined with rocks) to create a total of twelve quarts of kiwi juice. Both members, upon finishing, also needed to drink a glass each. Terence and Sarah, Marisa and Brooke, and Kelly and Christy completed this task. The remaining teams (excluding Ken and Tina, who claimed the Fast Forward) completed 'Matter of Skill' in which both members constructed Blokarts and rode them around a track three times. After this, teams headed to the Summerhill Rec Farm, the fourth Pit Stop.

In Leg 2, Mark and Bill were the only team to complete what Detour task in Caucaia, Brazil?Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

'Docket'. In Leg 2, teams proceeded to the northeastern coast of Brazil to find a Detour task near the city of Fortaleza. Once teams took dune buggies along Pecém Beach, they could choose either 'Beach It' or 'Docket'. In 'Beach It', teams needed to use logs to transport a large boat from the water's edge to a small inlet. Using force, nine teams completed this task. In 'Docket', Mark and Bill decided to head to a nearby shipping yard, locate a specific container in a database, and find their clue within said container in the yard. After the Detour, teams headed to the first Road Block task in Caucaia.

In the first leg of the race in Brazil, what did teams need to climb in 'Hard Way Up'?Detours of "The Amazing Race 13"

Stairs. Reaching a church in the city of Salvador, Brazil on the first leg of the race, teams were asked to complete 'Hard Way Up' or 'Soft Way Down'. In 'Hard Way Up', which only Andrew and Dan completed, teams needed to crawl on their hands and knees up the Escadaria do Passo where, at the top, they needed to answer a mystery question (about the amount of steps climbed). In 'Soft Way Down', the remaining ten teams ascended the Elevador Lacerda, then climbed down a cargo net two hundred and forty feet to the ground. Teams then made their way to the Pit Stop at Forte de Sao Marcelo.

Which team was eliminated at the Summerhill Rec Farm in Leg 4?"The Amazing Race" 13.2

Marisa and Brooke. After the Detour, teams were required to drive to the next Pit Stop, the Summerhill Rec Farm in Tauranga, New Zealand, where they would be checked in by Phil and his father. Ken and Tina arrived in first place having braved the Fast Forward task early in the leg. Since they arrived with their Travelocity Roaming Gnome they were also rewarded with a trip to Rio de Janeiro to see Carnival. Marisa and Brooke, who faltered early on in the race, were unable to hold their footing and fell into last place at the Pit Stop becoming the fourth eliminated team.

Teams choosing the 'Matter of Time' Detour option in Leg 4 had to create juice from which fruit?"The Amazing Race" 13.2

Kiwi. Once teams located their Travelocity Roaming Gnome (which needed to be brought to the Pit Stop) they also found their next clue leading them to Kiwi 360 in Te Puke, the location of their next Detour. This Detour forced teams to choose between 'Matter of Time' and 'Matter of Skill'. In 'Matter of Time', completed by Terence and Sarah, Marisa and Brooke, and Kelly and Christy, teams needed to squash kiwi fruit with their feet to make twelve quarts of juice, then drink a glass of the it to receive their clue. In 'Matter of Skill', completed by Nick and Starr, Toni and Dallas, Aja and Ty and Andrew and Dan, teams needed to build, and then pilot blokarts along a track. After completing three laps in these obscure vehicles they could receive their clue.

Which team member completed the tattoo-matching Road Block task in Leg 4?"The Amazing Race" 13.2

Terence. Heading out from the Gulf Harbour, teams were told to head to Mount Eden, a dormant volcano overlooking Auckland, where they would find their Road Block. For this, one member of each team needed to receive a photo and use this to match up with a Maori tribesperson's actual tattoo in the nearby area. When they correctly picked their tribesman they would receive their next clue sending them to the CityLife Hotel in Auckland where teams needed to locate a Travelocity Roaming Gnome somewhere in the city using a pair of binoculars. If team members incorrectly chose their tribesman, they would have to start again with a new picture. Terence, Toni, Christy, Starr, Andrew, Aja and Brooke completed this task.

Which team claimed the first Fast Forward in the fourth leg of the race?"The Amazing Race" 13.2

Ken and Tina. Upon arriving at the Gulf Harbour, teams were given their next bit of Route Info and the first Fast Forward clue of the race enabling the participating team to skip all tasks and move directly to the next Pit Stop. Ken and Tina decided to claim the reward and were forced to make their way to the mast of the Sky Tower and ascend to the top, over three hundred and twenty meters above the ground, where they would need to receive a Travelocity Roaming Gnome. Once both of them did this harrowing task, they could continue via helicopter to their Pit Stop.

In the beginning of Leg 4, teams were required to fly to what Oceanic city?"The Amazing Race" 13.2

Auckland. Opening their clues in the beginning of Leg 4 at the Pit Stop in La Paz, teams were told to head from Mirador el Monticulo to the country of New Zealand one of the southernmost regions on the globe. All teams made it to the airport and took the same flight from South America's west coast to the Pacific island nation and find Gulf Harbour in the Rodney District of Auckland, the most populated city in the country. Here, teams would need to untie a Gordian Knot to free up their next clue.

Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 3?"The Amazing Race" 13.2

Mark and Bill. After the Road Block, teams made their way by taxi to the third pit Stop of the race, Mirador el Monticulo in La Paz. Once again, Ken and Tina were the first place winners of this leg (their second consecutive victory). For their win, they received a Travelocity prize sending them to Mexico. Mark and Bill, who misread a clue and took a taxi to the Detour (rather than walking) received a thirty minute time penalty allowing all other teams to finish before them. They checked in as the last team and were subsequently eliminated.

How many wrestling techniques did team members need to learn for the Road Block in Leg 3?"The Amazing Race" 13.2

Six. After the possible U-Turn, teams were instructed to travel to the nearby city of El Alto to find their next clue at Los Titanes del Ring. This was the Road Block. In this task, one member of each team needed to fit into a luchadora wrestling outfit, then face off against local female wrestlers known as the Fighting Cholitas. Once they performed the six wrestling moves that they practiced and gave the hat they had received earlier in the leg, they could continue on. Only one team member could be in the ring at a time, and if they did not complete their move correctly, they would need to practice it again. Ken, Marisa, Toni, Sarah, Ty, Nick, Kelly, Dan and Mark finished this task.

After the Detour task in Leg 3, which team used the U-Turn?"The Amazing Race" 13.2

None of these. At the Plaza Abaroa, the ending point for both Detour tasks in La Paz, teams had to step onto the U-Turn mat and make a decision as to whether or not they would try to hold up the other teams. Although Nick and Starr tried to get Aja and Ty to use their U-Turn powers, the couple did not use it. No one did, in fact. Had this mechanic been used, the selected team would've needed to go back and complete the Detour option that they had not previously finished. Instead, teams made their way to the next task.

Which team completed the 'Musical March' Detour task in Leg 3?"The Amazing Race" 13.2

Andrew and Dan. Teams needed to continue by taxi through La Paz to Mercado Rodrigues where their next clue would be located- this spot was mentioned in their newspapers. After receiving a hat at the Plaza Murillo (at the Narvaez Hat Shop), teams received their Detour clue, a choice between 'Musical March' and 'Bumpy Ride'. In 'Musical March', teams needed to go to different plazas to accumulate band members who would need to be brought to a specific location in the city, the Plaza Abaroa. Andrew and Dan and Marisa and Brooke finished this task. In 'Bumpy Ride', the other seven teams rode handcrafted wooden bicycles along the city's cobblestone streets to the same plaza to receive their clue.

La Paz. Departing from the city of Fortaleza on the Atlantic coastline in Brazil, teams were instructed to make their way to the airport to fly over a thousand miles to La Paz, the capital of Bolivia. Once there, teams were required to locate the Statue of Simon Bolivar in the center of the city. En route, all nine teams took one of two flights to Bolivia and reached the statue where, upon their arrival, they would need to wait for the morning paper to receive their next clue which would be in the articles inside.

Was there a Road Block in the United States in Leg 11 (the final leg of the race)?Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 13"

No. Because there was no Road Block in the first leg of the race and no Road Block in Portland, Oregon in Leg 11, there were only nine Road Blocks to be found on the entire race course, the lowest amount for any season of the show. Instead, in Portland, teams completed a series of tasks involving local industry, memory of past legs of the race, and navigation before heading to the Finish Line at the Pittock Mansion where Nick and Starr became the official winners of "The Amazing Race 13".

In Russia in Leg 10, which team member completing the Road Block did not incur a time penalty of any length?Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 13"

Nick. In Leg 10, teams found the Road Block task at the Graveyard of Fallen Monuments where one member of each team needed to count the number of Lenin and Stalin statues (six and two) and create the number sixty-two with this info. They then needed to locate an antique bookstore and give the correct number or else take a ten minute penalty before guessing again. If correct, the racer would receive a book which, on page sixty-two, would lead them to the Bulgakov Museum where their teammate would be waiting. Nick, Dallas, Tina, and Andrew finished this Road Block task and continued to Sokolniki Park.

In Leg 9, which team member completed the Road Block involving sacks of flour in Russia?Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 13"

Nick. In Leg 9, teams headed to the town of Zhukovsky outside Moscow, Russia to find their clue box outside the Zhukovsky Bakery. Here, for a Road Block task, one member of each team was required to head onto a nearby truck and unload fifty sacks of flour weighing in at about fifty-five pounds each. Once the fifty sacks were stacked properly inside the bakery, team members could read their next clue leading them to the next Pit Stop. Dallas, Ken, Nick, and Dan completed this Road Block task.

In Kazakhstan in Leg 8, team members completing the Road Block needed to search for what item on a farm?Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 13"

Golden egg. In Leg 8, teams flew to Almaty, Kazakhstan to find a Road Block at the Alel' Agro Chicken Factory. Here, one member of each team was required to enter a coop filled with over thirty thousand chickens and search the floors for one of only seven golden eggs hidden underneath the feathered creatures. Tina, Sarah, Toni, and Andrew all finished this unique needle-in-a-haystack-type task before heading to the Kok Tobe Arch for their next clue. Neither Nick nor Starr completed this Road Block as they had taken the Fast Forward clue instead.
