Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Banana Splits
Zazu. He may have been little, but his hind legs sure packed a wallop!
Chongo. 'Uh-Oh! Chongo!' was Morgan's cry when he needed his friend's assistance.
Morocco Mole. Okay, that one was TOO easy!
Floral. There was Pa, Ma, Floral and Shag.
Ted Cassidy. The late Ted Cassidy is most remembered for playing the character Lurch on 'The Addams Family' in the 1960s.
Gary. In the original 1726 novel by Jonathan Swift, his name was Lemuel. They modernized it for the show and his name was Gary. He was helped around Lilliput by Eager, Bunco, Glumm and Flirtacia. And his dog, Tagg.
Richard Donner. Yes, the man who brought us the 'Lethal Weapon' series also directed many episodes of 'Danger Island,' which starred a very young Jan-Michael Vincent as the character Link. Quite awhile before he starred as Stringfellow Hawke in 'Airwolf.'
Captain Leech. Leech knew that there was treasure on the island.
Fariik. Raseem was the strongman, Bez was the bearded one, while Fariik provided the comic relief.
Finally, one that's a little tougher, even if you watched the show regularly. Who provided the voice of Fleegle, the leader of the Banana Splits? | Hanna-Barberra's 'Banana Splits'
|
Paul Winchell . Paul Winchell has provided the voice for countless cartoon characters, including the Smurfs and Dick Dastardly. Jeffrey Winkless was in the Fleegel costume.
Hanna Barbera. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera gave us many classics such as "The Jetsons" and "The Flintstones".
Four. Remember the song? "One banana, two banana, three banana, four. Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more".
Guitar. Fleegle was the leader of the gang, and he always had his tongue sticking out. Fleegle was voiced by Paul Winchell who also did the voice for Tigger from "Winnie the Pooh".
Gorilla. Some may argue that he was an orangutan, but Bingo was a gorilla. Animal, from the "Muppet Show", reminds me a lot of Bingo.
Lion. Drooper was a lion, and he reminds me a lot of Pete Puma from Warner Brothers cartoon fame.
Keyboards. Snorky never really talked. He simply "snorked" or "honked".
"Magilla Gorilla". "Magilla Gorilla" was a Hanna Barbera production, but it was never featured on the show.
"Danger Island". Jan Michael Vincent would become a minor star in the 1970's. One of his most famous films was Walt Disney's "The World's Greatest Athlete".
Banana Buggy. Each Banana Buggy was decorated to match each of the characters.
"Dear Drooper". Drooper was very much a hippy, right down to the hip country drawl and square sunglasses.
Ogre. To the best of my recollection, Ogre was never shown. However, he did eat an occasional dog catcher.
Drooper. "Take Out the Trash" was a regular feature on the show.
t. Yes, this is the same Richard Donner who has directed such movies as "Superman", "Lethal Weapon", and "The Goonies".
