Beast Wars
Terrorize. In order to transform from beast mode to robot mode, Maximals use the command "Maximize" while the Predicons use the command "Terrorize", though these do not seem to be necessary, as they transform on their own without incantations through the series. Also, the activation command can be changed arbitrarily, and seems to merely represent which faction a given character belongs to.
Rattrap. Optimus ordered Rattrap to go help Cheetor, whose foot was stuck under a rock. Rattrap was disinclined to expose himself and refused. Optimus then went himself, sustaining damage on the way, and blasted the rock, while Rhinox forced Rattrap to provide covering fire (though they were not ordered to by Optimus). The Maximals then retreated. The Predicons would have followed, but, with the exception of Megatron, went into stasis lock from the Energon fields. They had to revert to beast mode and rebuild their immunity to the Energon.
Waspinator. Cheetor ran off to show off his speed, and to run with the other cheetahs. The cheetahs seemed to know he was not organic and were scared off. Then, a large bug appeared before them, and they again acted in a similar fashion. Cheetor deduced that it must be a robot in disguise and attacked. Waspinator then transformed and started beating Cheetor back. Both the Maximals and Predicons were attracted to the commotion, which led to the first battle between the two groups.
100 meters. After Cheetor started to run away, Optimus first called out to him, and then tried to use the comlink. Rhinox explained that with the Energon fields, "anything over a hundred meters, they ain't worth scrap". This was one problem that was addressed early in the series by Rhinox.
Africa. Africa is where most of the animals from which the "Beast Wars" characters take their forms, are from. The only inconsistencies are the dinosaur fossils, the Tyrannosaurus and the Pteranodon being from North America, and the Velociraptor being from the Mongolia area. Also, in the third season, early, pre-evolved humans are found. Most scientists believe that the earliest humans were from Africa. The final point is that when Megatron was consulting the Darkside's computer after the crash, a holographic representation of Earth can be seen with a blinking point in Northeast Africa.
Scorponok. Dinobot was extremely upset with Megatron's inability to bring them to Earth (although the planet they landed on WAS Earth, just in prehistoric times). Dinobot challenged Megatron to a duel for leadership of the Predacons. Megatron gave a short speech about how there was more to leading than simple courage, and then stepped aside to let his new second-in-command, Scorponok, take a shot at Dinobot. The blast struck Dinobot and sent him flying away (this blast was, for some reason, substantially stronger than most other rockets Scorponok would fire throughout the series).
Velociraptor. Dinobot is often angry with inaction and incompetence, and sought to replace Megatron as leader of the Predicons, and later, Optimus of the Maximals. He also values honor and only believes in fair fights, as his weapons exemplify. He has a sword and a spinning shield that he prefers to use when fighting, but can also use his optical cannons, he only ranged attack. Dinobot's alternate mode is a velociraptor, a fossil of which was scanned when the Predicons were searching for appropriate life forms to mimic.
The Predicons had stolen the Golden Disc. The Golden Disc was really the Voyager Golden Record, and contained coordinates to a planet rich in Energon, which the Predacons could use to fuel their conquest of the galaxy. The Maximals on the Axalon, who were the closest Maximals to the Darkside, were ordered to intercept Megatron and retrieve the disc. The disc would eventually become a key factor in the overall story of "Beast Wars".
To protect against Energon radiation. There is so much Energon (the energy source that transformers use) on prehistoric Earth that the Energon fields it creates are enough to render the robots non-functional if they prolong their exposure to it. They decided to acquire forms based on local life forms to help protect them. They can also perform internal repairs while in beast mode, provided it's not too extensive. The downside to beast mode is that the transformers cannot use their weapon systems.
In the opening scenes of this great series, the Darkside and the Axalon came out of a wormhole, and fought in through the space over an unknown planet (which later turned out to be prehistoric Earth). To save their crew, which faction launched stasis pods into orbit? | Episode 1: Beast Wars Part 1
|
Maximals. After sustaining a heavy barrage from the Darkside, Optimus Primal ordered that the stasis pods, which contained unconscious protoforms of the Axalon's crew, be sent into orbit to protect them from further Predacon attack. This also allowed the writers of the show to periodically bring in new characters to the show.
Megatron's. The Energon fields so close to the source would be so strong, that, as robots, the transformers woud go into stasis lock in under a minute. In a last ditch effort to defeat Optimus Primal, while he was wounded, Megatron transformed and fired a single missile at Optimus. Megatron started to feel the effects of the Energon immediately. As the missile was traveling towards Optimus, Dinobot ran in front of it and slapped it aside with his tail. This destabilized the mountain and the transformers evacuated the area as fast as possible, with the exception of Megatron, who has being slowed by the Energon fields. The mountain exploded with Megatron jumping away. Dinobot explained that he was merely settling the debt he owed Optimus for saving him on the bridge earlier.
When the two teams met at the Energon caves on the mountain, they had a small squabble, in which each character was paired up with one from the opposing faction. Who was Rattrap paired up with? | Episode 2: Beast Wars Part 2
|
Tarantulas. The two factions got to the Energon at nearly the same time. They ran at each other in a chicken race with each member of both teams being paired with one from the other. Cheetor was paired with Waspinator, Dinobot with Scorponok, Rhinox and Terrorsaur, and Rattrap with Tarantulas. Naturally, Megatron and Optimus, as leaders, fought each other. This battle of a gorilla and a tyrannosaurus fighting each other was reminiscent of King Kong, in which there is a similar fight.
Rhinox. As Dinobot was tracking Terrorsaur and Waspinator with his lasers, he swept across the overhanging rocks, which caused one large rock in particular to come loose and nearly crush Rhinox. Rhinox did not look impressed at all, and Rattrap quickly picked up on Dinobot's mistake, after the fighting had been resolved, to accuse Dinobot of being a traitor. Optimus stepped in to separate the two, and the Maximals continued to move towards the Energon mountain.
Optical Cannons. Dinobot's ranged attack is his Optical Cannons. His eyes start to glow green before he's about to use them. Despite these lasers coming from his eyes, his accuracy does not seem to be any better than any other transformer's.
As both groups made their way to the mountain, the Predicons launched a minor offensive to slow down the Maximals. Who attacked the Maximals? | Episode 2: Beast Wars Part 2
|
Terrorsaur and Waspinator. Terrorsaur and Waspinator were the only two Predacons that could fly at the time, and could, therefore, easily cross the distance between the Predacons and Maximals without having to cross the valley that separated the two groups. They attacked the Maximals who were sheltered by overhanging rock. After the land bound Maximals exchanged a few futile shots, Optimus activated his jets and went to deal with the two Predacons himself, using his shoulder cannons.
While the Predicons were firing missiles at the dueling Dinobot and Optimus, some missiles missed their mark and continued on the destroy part of a mountain, revealing large amounts of Energon. As the Maximals were making their way to the Energon mountain, they noticed a structure that resembled what? | Episode 2: Beast Wars Part 2
|
Stonehenge. As the Maximals were making their way to the newly discovered Energon, Rhinox spotted an alien structure composed of a circle of stones, resembling Stonehenge, but with substantially more stones. This structure would be dubbed "Standing Stones" by the transformers, and was the first indication that there was a third party at work during the Beast Wars. Standing Stones would be visited later in the series.
Which Maximal was least trustful of Dinobots (and continued to bicker with him throughout the rest of the series)? | Episode 2: Beast Wars Part 2
|
Rattrap. Rattrap would always be suspicious of Dinobot due to his Predacon heritage, and Dinobot would hate Rattrap for his lack of any noble desires (i.e. honor). The two would argue constantly, throwing insults back and forth, for the remainder of the series, although, eventually, a mutual respect does seem to grow between them.
While Dinobot and Optimus were fighting, the Predacons attacked the bridge on which they were dueling. The bridge started to disintegrate as the Maximals ran across it. Who did Optimus save from a long drop? | Episode 2: Beast Wars Part 2
|
Rattrap. In the previous episode, Optimus went to save Cheetor after Rattrap refused an order. Optimus explained that he would never send anyone to do anything he wouldn't be willing to do himself. Rattrap still remained flippant, even after Optimus saved him from falling, saying, "you're the leader, it's your, uh, job." Rattrap remained like this for the beginning of the series, always thinking of his self-preservation, although he did eventually become more of a team player, and started to be a little less selfish.
Finish the quote:
Optimus: "What're you doing? You'd won."
Dinobot: "You slipped. To defeat you in such a manner would be lacking in honor. I would not have earned the right to lead. I prefer to beat my opponents the old fashioned way, _______."
| Episode 2: Beast Wars Part 2
|
"Brutally". Before he said "brutally", Dinobot charged his sword to punctuate his words. The two then engaged in a much faster paced fight. The two combatants were fairly well matched in this fight, but we never got to see the victor, as the Predacons eventually attacked and disrupted the fight. Optimus saved Dinobot from falling down the canyon, which made Dinobot feel that he owed Optimus something in return. He would later save Optimus' life near the end of the episode, not as a fellow comrade, but to settle the debt.
His swords. Optimus and Dinobot were fighting on a bridge, so the use of energy weapons would have been substantially more dangerous to both combatants due to the close-quarters nature of the fight. Dinobot's preferred weapons were close ranged ones, such as his spinning sword and velocirotor (a spinning pair of blades that also go by a variety of other names), and Optimus had to fight with weapons that could combat them. Optimus' weapon set included all of the weapons mentioned above, although you do not ever see his flail in the TV series (his toy came with one, though).
Tigatron. Tigatron was the first transformer to be brought into the series after the pilot episode. He is a male transformer, though the tiger his pod scanned was female.
Blackarachnia was the first female transformer introduced to the "Beast Wars" as a black widow spider. She was ambitious and deceitful, like many Predacons, but ended up becoming a Maximal near the end of the Third season.
Airazor was the second female transformer in the "Beast Wars" and took on the role of aerial reconnaissance. She and Tigatron developed an affection for one another due to their mutual love for Earth. The two was caught in an alien trap in the second season and sent off to Nexus Zero, where they were held in stasis by the mysterious aliens. They were later merged together to create a single powerful entity, Tigerhawk, in the third season.
Rattrap and Dinobot. Though the other Maximals trusted Dinobot, Rattrap was always weary due to Dinobot's history as a Predacon. Rattrap was always quick to accuse Dinobot of being a traitor when anything went wrong, and just generally did not trust him. Dinobot, who was a warrior at heart, despised Rattrap's tactics of stealth, and indirect combat. The two came up with many insulting nicknames for each other, and tended to joust with words often. However, they did end up coming to respect one another, though neither would ever admit it.
A Bird. First introduced in the fifteenth episode, "The Spark", Airazor is the second female transformer to join the "Beast Wars". She barely survived her first day on Earth, as her stasis pod landed in a barren region that covered massive amounts of unstable Energon. The lack of any animals to scan for an alternate mode plus the strong Energon fields (and the Predacons that were trying to disrupt Rhinox's attempts to save her) left much to be desired. However, at the last moment, after both Cheetor and Rhinox had tried to hold off the Predacons, a peregrine falcon flew overhead. Airazor flew out of her pod and easily defeated Terrorsaur as soon as she was activated. Like Tigatron, her memory circuits were damaged in the crash, and she had no recollection of who she once was before the war. Because of this, she also developed a strong affection for Earth.
Optimus Primal. Optimus Primal's name is a play on the name of the original leader of the Autobots from the Generation 1 series, Optimus Prime. Megatron is the name of the leader of the Decepticons from the Generaton 1 series, and of the leader of the Predacons in "Beast Wars" (Though both series are in the same continuity, the two Megatrons are different characters). Galvatron is also from the G1 series, and used to be Megatron, brought back from the dead by Unicron, the massive planet-eating transformer.
Optimus Primal's alternate mode is a Gorilla. He is generally calm, confident, and calculating, and never willing to leave a friend behind. He strongly believes in the Maximal code, and will try to avoid violence and bloodshed if at all possible, while still upholding his ideals.
Dinobot. Dinobot was originally a Predacon in the pilot episode, and tried to overthrow Megatron for leadership of the Predacons. He was defeated by Megatron's second-in-command, Scorponok, and then went to challenge Optimus for leadership of the Maximals. He lost again, but was accepted into their ranks. Dinobot is known for having a short temper and often suggesting rather brutal, and non-Maximal, methods for solving any problems the Maximals may have.
In the second season, he did return to the ranks of the Predacons for the duration of one episode, "Maximal, No More".
An Ant. Inferno's alternate mode is a fire ant. Tarantulas had originally wanted to make him another spider, but the pod had already chosen an alternate form. Inferno was a fanatic and psychotic. His beast mode circuits overrode most of his robot ones, and he viewed the stasis pod that he landed in as his colony. He used his rather large weapons and flame throwers to attack anyone he deemed an enemy of the colony. After the pod was destroyed, his unwavering loyalty was switched to Megatron, whom he then referred to as "the Royalty" or "my queen", much to Megatron's disgust.
Waspinator. Waspinator originally got bits and pieces blown off in "Chain of Command" (fifth episode), and from then on, for the rest of the series, it was a bit of a running gag. Other characters also had to endure being shot into pieces, but not with the same frequency as Waspinator, and normally, it wasn't nearly as elaborate.
Tarantulas. Rhinox was a large and powerful transformer, but he was also gentle and peace-loving. He took on the role as scientist and technical engineer for the Maximals and came up with quite a few nifty gadgets.
Tarantulas was also an inventor, but he was more secretive and selfish. He had a personal, hidden lair where he could tinker with and invent things, and feast on any small organisms that happened to stumble in.
Other Predacons did invent their own things from time to time, but not nearly as often. Blackarachnia tended to build her own devices, such as bombs and explosives, to help her in her fight against the Maximals. Scorponok also had an array of missiles and cyber bees that had special effects, but more often than not, they didn't turn out quite as planed.
What unstable energy source is in an abundance on prehistoric Earth, and is the source of a lot of conflict in the "Beast Wars"? | "Beast Wars" - Season 1
|
Energon. Energon is found in the forms of glowing blue crystals. It stores immense amounts of energy, but is also quite unstable. Many Energon deposits are destroyed throughout "Beast Wars" by the transformers in attempts to destroy each other. The fields caused by the Energon are the reason why the transformers need alternate beast modes. If they stay in robot mode too long, the fields will send them into stasis lock. Later in the series, in season three, we find out that the alien species, the Vok, seeded Earth with Energon, hoping that by the time humans came into existence, the Energon would have all transformed into stable Energon cubes, that the humans could have then used as a clean and efficient fuel source.
Rhinox. Instead, Rhinox remains in his original form throughout the three series and 52 episodes of Beast Wars.
Other transmetal versions of the original members include Optimus and his hover-board, Cheetor and his jet-packs, and Rattrap and his wheels and motor.
Rattrap and Cheetor, alongside Predacon's Megatron and Tarantulus were the victims of the quantum surge following the explosion which claimed the life of Optimus. Optimus was later revived by Rhinox, and along with those listed above, assumed his new transmetal form.
As well as mobility (flight or speed), the transmetal form was beneficial as the transformers could remain in their robot form without being negatively affected by the excess amounts of energon.
With the constant threat of a Predacon ambush, the Maximals needed a formidable arsenal. Which member of the faction possessed two large, powerful, rapid-fire hand cannons? | "Beast Wars": The Original Maximals
|
Rhinox. The standard hand cannon was possessed by most of the Maximals. As well as this, some of the original transformers were equipped with more advanced firepower. Examples of these include:
- Rattrap - he was a demolition expert and carried explosives which could stick to whatever they landed on. These got him out of many sticky situations (e.g. when he was trapped by a river of lava, and was able to propel himself away using an explosive).
- Optimus - he possessed two long blades, two powerful cannons mounted on his shoulders, and a double-barrel cannon mounted on his wrist.
- Dinobot - he possessed a set of spinning blades, a silver sword, and was able to fire laser beams from his eyes.
