Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Flight of the Conchords
Bret and Jemaine. Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement portray caricatured versions of themselves in the brilliantly witty comedy, ably assisted - perhaps even surpassed - by Rhys Darby as the duo's hapless manager Murray.
Mel is the band's obsessive fan and Doug is her meek, wet behind the ears husband.
Mel. Kristen Schaal is so good as the infatuated fan that she comes across as more than a little creepy. Clearly it's not just the boys' music that Mel craves after, and Bret and Jemaine spend most of their time trying to avoid her. Except when they're in need, of course.
Todd is the highly irritating "third conchord" in the last episode of the first series.
Sally is the love interest for both Bret and Jemaine during several episodes.
The Hip-Hopopotamus. One of the funniest moments of the entire series for me is when one of the muggers asks Jemaine exactly who he is, and he replies - in the form of a rap song - "I'm the hip-hopopotamus, my rhymes are bottomless..." and then just stands staring blankly at the camera, seemingly at a loss as to what to say next.
The Rhymenosaurus is Bret's rapping name in the same episode.
I made the other two up myself, as you could probably tell if you've ever watched the programme.
My favourite episode from the first series is "Drive By". What is NOT one of the lines of the song "Leggy Blonde", which Murray sings about the girl from Tech Support? | Flight Of The Conchords
|
You made me cry. Murray thinks he's "in love" with Jessica, the Tech Support girl in this episode, so he writes her a song. Unfortunately, she leaves before he can sing it to her, so we hear him singing the frankly ridiculous lyrics over a tune not dissimilar to The Beautiful South. It comes complete with a cheesy mid-song drum solo too, and a hilariously misplaced rap by Jemaine at the end.
Of course, "You made me cry" is the first line of Fats Domino's "Ain't That a Shame", and I also thought it might sound like a line fit for a love song.
Which British megastar appears in a dream to Bret, in an advisory capacity, during episode six, which is also named after him? | Flight Of The Conchords
|
David Bowie. Of course, it's not REALLY David Bowie - it's Jemaine dressed up as the legendary British superstar, giving Bret some rather misguided advice.
Obviously, I chose the other three because they're also British megastars.
What is the name of the band that the repugnant Todd forms, and goes on to bigger things with, at the end of the first series? | Flight Of The Conchords
|
Crazy Dogggz. Todd antagonises Jemaine when he keeps trying to get him to rehearse a dreadful song he's written called "The Doggy Bounce", while Bret forms The Original Flight Of The Conchords after having been thrown out of the band. Eventually Todd forms his own band, Crazy Dogggz, and goes on to enormous mainstream success - with Murray managing them!
"The Third Conchord" is the name of the season's final episode.
Mel's Bells is just something I made up!
His mother. Jemaine keeps giving Bret questions to ask and after the conversation asks Bret who he was talking to.
Racism. The guys want a night gig but Murray believes it is too dangerous...with pickpockets, open manholes, murderers, and those who ridicule.
Camera phone. After the muggers take the camera phone, Bret and Jemaine begin to rap. Best scene in the episode.
2 days. Murray asks Bret why he didn't bother to tell him about it until two days later, to which Bret responds, "I thought he would be back by now."
Ruben. Bret wonders if that is why Jemaine is annoyed with him.
He is going to get the camera phone back.. Jemaine doesn't seem to care at all.
Yes. They sing "Issues" on the way.
get pizza. He can't go because he has a white supremacist gig. It's gonna be awesome.
Jemaine told about John's monkey secret.. Jemaine told Bret about how John killed a monkey after John specifically asked Jemaine not to tell. Later, Mickey revealed that it was his monkey Cheeky that John killed.
Dave's. After musing about how Jemaine has been unsuccessful at meeting women in New York, Bret realizes that the party they're looking for is at their friend Dave's house. Murray, who is the band's manager, points out later that he wasn't invited to Dave's party. Dave, played by Arj Barker, works at a pawn shop and frequently dispenses advice to Bret and Jemaine about how to meet women.
New Zealand. We find out Bret and Jemaine are both from New Zealand at the beginning of the episode. Murray (played by Rhys Darby) is also from New Zealand, and works at the local New Zealand consulate. In real life, Bret and Jemaine met at Victoria University of Wellington.
Astronaut. Jemaine says Sally is beautiful enough to be a part-time model, but would probably have to keep her normal job, too. Sally is played by Rachel Blanchard, who also played Cher in the "Clueless" television series.
Kebab. After Jemaine buys Sally a kebab, they return to the apartment he shares with Bret. There is an awkward moment later when it comes to light that Sally is Bret's ex-girlfriend.
At the band meeting, Murray points out there was a typographical error in the ad for a band wanted at the local aquarium. What was the aquarium actually seeking? | 'Flight of the Conchords' - "Sally"
|
Sand. Due to the odd font, Murray had read the ad posted by the aquarium and thought they were looking for a band. He points out that the aquarium did listen to the demo tape created by the band and may play it in their lobby. Mel stayed at the aquarium until 1 a.m., not realizing the show was canceled.
Before they shoot the video for "Robots," Jemaine mentions that their outfits make them look nothing like a band they wanted to emulate. Which band does Jemaine mention? | 'Flight of the Conchords' - "Sally"
|
Daft Punk. Due to not having a budget for the video, Murray not only makes the costumes himself but also uses his camera phone to shoot the footage. Jemaine is disappointed that they don't look like Daft Punk and comments that the buttons on the front of the robot costumes resemble nipples.
A helmet that looks like his hair. When Jemaine asks if he can have the apartment on Monday night so Sally can come over, Bret gets irritated, pointing out that he plans to work on his secret project that night. They decide the best way of resolving the problem is to have Bret come along on a date with Jemaine and Sally. Jemaine and Bret purchase leather suits in a later episode, entitled "What Goes on Tour." The 1983 Casio DG-20 electric guitar is featured in another episode, "Bret Gives Up the Dream."
Duck. Even though Jemaine convinces Bret that it won't be weird to have him along on his date with Sally, he asks him to leave after they've ordered dinner. Jemaine and Sally take what's left of the duck and duck juice gets all over Sally's top. Jemaine volunteers Bret to pay for her dry-cleaning.
The band broke up. Along with these creative excuses, Jemaine also claims that it's just raining on his face, and they both state they have inflammations in their tear glands. They're actually both crying over Sally.
Macaroni. While Jemaine swears that he's just "making chit-chat," it's obvious he's looking for a way to get back together with Sally. Sally does appear in a later episode, entitled "Sally Returns."
Fruit. Bret wants an apple and Jemaine really wants a banana.
Jemaine. Murray tells Jemaine that he is from New Zealand and he should not make fun of the country.
Nothing. Bret receives it and says, "Oh, my favorite box."
Dubbed Video Dub. Bret and Jemaine tell Murray that it's not and he responds with, "Dubbed Video Dub."
Tech Support. Bret and Jemaine do not know that Murray and his wife are separated.
Albi. "In the marmalade forest, between the make-believe trees, in a cottage cheese cottage, lives Albi."
