According to conspiracy theorists like Bluestone, the Illuminati is a secret shadowy society that are supposedly controlling the world's affairs. In reality, the Illuminati refers to a sect of "Englightened" thinkers in Bavaria, founded in 1776.

      Excalibur. While Excalibur does appear in the series, the Archmage never encounters it. The Phoenix Gate allows the Archmage to travel through time and space, the Grimorum contains all sorts of power and spells, and the Eye of Odin allows the Archmage to control the Grimorum (because he eats it whole!). Removing the Eye later defeats the Archmage.

      Hudson. With the exception of Goliath (and later Angela) all of the Manhattan Clan members are named after areas in New York City.

      Indian. The New Olympians are derived from Greek mythology; Taurus mentions that he is a descendent of the minotaur, and many others resemble characters and gods from Greek myth. Odin is a major god from Norse mythology, and his eye plays a vital role in many episodes before Goliath returns it to him. The trickster Coyote is represented in many Native American legends. Also, the clan encounters characters from Egyptian, Jewish, Celtic, West African, and Pacific Northwest folklore and mythology.
