Gramps's death. "Transition" was made when George Cleveland died suddenly. Without Grammps, the producers of the show didn't know what to do with the family. They finally decided to write Gramps' death into the show. When Gramps died, Ellen knew she could no longer keep the farm, so she gave it the Martins, who also adopted Timmy and the Jeff era came to an end.
He died in war. Jeff's mother was a widow, but Jeff was lucky to have Gramps. Gramps taught him the values of hard work while on the farm.
