Ontario, Canada. The family is revealed to live in Ontario, Canada, when George is reading a newspaper titled Ontario Chronicle in the episode "Don't Take a Tip From Me." Also, in another episode, "All Systems No Go," he refers to himself as "George from London," and in "Dinner Guest," when Lizzie explains how her dad's been to London and Paris, George remarks, "I've been to London and Paris...Ontario."
Nora and George. At the beginning of the show, the Venturis' residence had a short of rooms. So, Casey and Lizzie had to share a room, which was too small! Casey decides that she wants Derek's room for her own, saying that she and Lizzie have nothing. Derek explodes when being asked to give up his room, which he's lived in since he was an infant. Nora and George make a room for Casey in the basement, but Casey fools Derek into wanting the downstairs bedroom. Finally, at the end, George and Nora give up their room for Casey, and have the basement, as their new bedroom!
Klutzilla. Casey trips at the stairs at school, and Derek nicknames her "Klutzilla", a name that quickly spreads throughout the school. Soon, Casey seems clumsy everywhere which she blames on Derek, but the real reason was something else! Whenever she fell or tripped over something, there was one common subject all the time! And, that was not Derek, but his best friend Sam. Casey secretly had a crush on Sam, and they later started dating!

Dereka. At third grade, Derek has really big hair! And, because of some reason, Derek wasn't really fond of getting his hair cut! So, all through the third grade, Derek was called 'Dereka' for having such long hair! After getting to know about this, everyone teases Derek at the dinner table!
Casey and Derek. In this episode, the party becomes out of control, while Casey and Derek, get locked upstairs in the bathroom! Lizzie and Edwin, become really scared and freak out, seeing the condition and the environment of the party. Soon, Nora and George reach home, and then get everybody out of the house. Derek and Casey get so busted!

And, in the house, Lizzie is freaked out about the school dance. As, she doesn't know how to dance. But, later George teaches her to dance, and Lizzie becomes great.
Emily. Casey has some great ideas to improve the school so she decides to run for school president. But, when Emily advises her to keep in mind the risk of destroying her reputation, Casey decides to get Derek to run for her in the race. But, later Derek doesn't listen to Casey, and after a fight, Casey herself runs for school president, taking no care about her reputation! Meanwhile, Sheldon tries hard to get some scoop on Derek or Casey, so that, he has more chances of winning. But, at the last, because of a moving speech, everyone votes for Emily, though she didn't even stand up for the elections!

Casey. Derek and Sam are stoked for their upcoming performance in the Clash of the Bands contest at school and with them thinking Sheldon as easy competition, they can't lose... until they find out that they're missing a good lead singer when Derek and the band practice in front of the family and end up getting bad feedback. So, finally they take Casey as their band member. And, later face hundreds of difficulties!
Paul. Paul is a guidance counselor and computer teacher at Casey and Derek's high school. He has been giving Casey advice ever since her first week at school, and most of the time they always talk about Casey's frustrating relationship with her stepbrother Derek. Casey is always ready to blame Derek for every little thing that's wrong in her life, but Paul is always there to tell her to think things through. Although Paul's advice doesn't always stick with Casey, she meets him once every week to talk about the latest drama in her life. We see Paul in every single episode!

They decide that the best places in the house aren't big enough for the two families, so they agree to decide by games of chance (dice, cards, etc). At the end because of some mistakes done by Casey, Derek becomes the ultimate winner!
London, Ontario, Canada. The father, George Venturi, introduces himself as "George from London" in one episode.
Thompson High. They say the name of the school in a few episodes. The full name of the school is John Sparrow Thompson High.
Kendra. Kendra is played by Lauren Collins who appeared on "Degrassi: The Next Generation". She is known for always calling Derek "Derry" and "Dear-Bear", much to his dislike.
Emily is Casey's best friend, played by Shadia Simmons. In a few of the earlier produced episodes, Emily had a huge crush on Derek. She is also the next-door neighbor of the McDonald-Venturis.
Lucy is Casey's friend who appears in the episode "Two-Timing Derek", when she is rehearsing a dance with Casey. Casey is shocked to discover that Derek asks Lucy out while he is dating Kendra.
Amanda appears in the fourth season. She is the girlfriend of Derek's friend Ralph.

Noel. Noel Covington, played by Adam Butcher, auditions for the school musical on a dare, and he is shocked when he actually gets the lead. Casey was selected to play the lead female role in the musical, a thespian student named Wendell was selected to play the villain, and Derek (to Casey's surprise) was selected as the male chorus. When Wendell gets injured, Derek must take his place in the play as the villain, the evil Pirate Pete. Casey gives Derek acting advice, and the audience actually loves the play. Noel and Casey do a kissing scene, and as evidenced at the end of the episode, Noel seems to take an interest in Casey.
Noel would appear again in the episode "Just Friends" when Casey attempts to show Derek that guys and girls can just be friends. Unfortunately, plans go awry when Noel thinks Casey asked him out on a date.
Casey does not star opposite Wendell, as Wendell plays the villain until he is injured. Max is Casey's boyfriend in this episode, although he does not try out for the school musical.
Truman would not appear until a later episode, "6 1/2".

He is later challenged to a fight by Ronnie's older brother. In "Bully Brothers", Derek threatens Ronnie, a kid who is picking on Edwin, and he is later challenged to a fight by Ryan, Ronnie's older brother, a giant guy from the football team who used to bully Derek when they were kids. Fortunately, Ryan does not beat up Derek in the end because of Casey.

Michelle. Derek encourages Edwin to play hard to get with Michelle, but that only leads to trouble as Michelle dumps him. With the help of Lizzie, at the end of the episode, Edwin is able to get a date with Michelle.
a law office. Casey goes to work with George at his law office, but must face a troublesome copy machine. Later, everything with "Bertha" is sorted out when Edwin shows up with his computer knowledge.
Derek fakes being sick to get out of going to work with Nora, who works for an interior design company, but Edwin also fakes sick, so Nora must stay home, as well. Fortunately for Nora, Derek helps her land a business deal with a rich client.
"When Derek Met Sally". Sally is Derek's co-worker at the popular hangout restaurant, Smelly Nelly's, first appearing in "When Derek Met Sally". Derek and Sally have a flirtatious relationship, and Derek seems to have recurring feelings for her, but he has trouble putting it into words. He is distraught, however, at the end of the episode when he learns that she has a boyfriend, Patrick. Sally would continue to appear in almost all future episodes, and she and Derek eventually go out, and date on and off, until their breakup when Sally decides to attend a university in Vancouver.
He has a crush on her. Truman, the new guy at school, starts rating girls, and Casey is shocked to find that he only gives her a 6 1/2. Truman later goes on dates with a few girls Casey knows, in an attempt to get Casey jealous. It is revealed at the end of the episode that he has a crush on Casey, and only gave her a 6 1/2 so other guys wouldn't go for her. Casey is disgusted by him, although Truman reappears in later episodes, still harboring a crush on her.
Dennis. In this episode, Casey decides to invite her biological father over for dinner so he can get to know her new family. She later instructs her family to behave so he won't think they are mad, and also orders Derek out of the house to go on a date with his girlfriend, Kendra. Unfortunately, things don't go as planned, and Derek ends up staying for dinner. On the bright side, however, Dennis actually gets along great with Derek, and Derek asks him to postpone his flight at the end to stay longer and spend more time with Casey and Lizzie.
