Lonesome Dove
Montana. Dodge City, Kansas was the home of the great law man Marshall Matt Dillon. Virginia City, Nevada was where the Cartwrights went to town (usually to the Silver Dollar Saloon).
Rude Behavior. Woodrow said, "I hate rude behvior in a man. I won't tolerate it." It was former President George H.W. Bush who hated broccoli.
Ogallala, Nebraska. All of these are actual towns. Ogallala is located along the Platte River which many cattle drives had to cross.
Robert Duvall. Robert Duvall was originally cast to play Woodrow Call but later got the part of Augustus McCrae. He would have been excellent in either role.
Texas Rangers. The do steal horses but only in Mexico, which, apparently doesn't count.
Dee Boot. Joe tells July and Roscoe later in the film that the only reason his mom married July is because she and Dee ran out of money.
Peach, the widow of the deceased dentist, goes to visit her brother-in-law, July Johnson, while holding a rooster under her arm. She is telling July to go after Jake Spoon. The rooster will not stay still. What happens to the rooster? | "Lonesome Dove" : #1

She breaks his neck.. Peach says right afterward, "That'll teach him to peck me." Scary woman.
Fort Smith, Arkansas. He rode his horse hard to escape getting arrested and hung by the townspeople for killing the dentist/mayor/brother of the sheriff.
10 years. He apparently showed up to rest and hide out from July Johnson and company.
Dig a well.. Dish doesn't expect to have to work, but is ok with it. He has a lot of respect for the Captain. He needs the work too.
Juanz, Lippy, Gus, Laurie and Dish. It's sad to think that this may be the last time they are all alive and play cards together.
$2.00. He wants to be with Laurie, but doesn't come out and say it.
Jake Spoon. Jake thinks that it is the best land for raising cattle he has ever seen, and that they could make a fortune.
Also, at the first dinner there is a discussion about Bol, the cook, wacking the dinner bell. Bol says, "General Robert E. Lee freed the slaves, I will wack that bell if I want to." Gus tells him it was Abe Lincoln. What does Pea Eye add to the conversation? | "Lonesome Dove" : #1

Scotland. Call says that he's just as American as someone from Tennesee. I guess that comment was directed at Gus.

Sit on the porch and drink whiskey.. Also, he tells Call on his death bed that he wanted to keep his leg so he could kick a pig once in a while; and he always wants a poke, but as far as Call's concerned, it's to sit on a porch and drink whiskey.

Martin. Clara had three boys of her own that past away. She was sure glad to get another chance at being a mother to a little boy. She likes young things.
Ellie, Big Sway and Luke make it to Clara's farm just before Ellie has her baby. Ellie abandons her baby and leaves with the two men to find Dee Boot in jail in Ogallala. Why is Dee Boot in jail? | "Lonesome Dove" : #2

For killing a boy.. Ellie only gets to see Dee briefly at the jail because she faints from the blood loss after having the baby. When she wakes up the next time you see her, Dee has already been hung.
Laurie and Gus are back at cattle camp and Deets finds some of the murdered victims from the group Jake is with. Deets believes that Jake is one of them. Who goes after the bad men? | "Lonesome Dove" : #2

Call, Gus, Deets, Newt and Pea Eye. Very sad scene at the hanging when Jake says goodbye and hopes there are no hard feelings, then kicks his horse and hangs himself. Gus with tears in his eyes says, .."He died fine."
Meanwhile, Jake Spoon takes up with a bad group of men. The ring leader kills anyone he feels like. What explanation does Jake give Gus as to why he went with these men? | "Lonesome Dove" : #2

To get through the territory.. They told Jake they are going to rob banks, and he is ok with that, yet uncomfortable immediately.
To reunite with Clara, his true love.. He dreams of being with Clara and hopes that he gets a chance to marry her, but things don't quite turn out that way.

July Johnson, Roscoe Brown and company. July and Roscoe explain that they just happened to ride through the area, fired their guns and Blue Duck's gang took off.

Blue Duck knocks him out cold.. Why did Call and Gus ever think that Newt could handle Blue Duck and protect himself and Laurie?
Meanwhile, Jake has taken off to gamble, leaving Laurie alone at their campsite. Gus discovers her alone. When they go into the water to cool off, who shows up? | "Lonesome Dove" : #2

Blue Duck. Gus watches Blue Duck approach from the ridge of a mountain, riding an old Mexican saddle that he probably killed the Mexican for. Gus tells Laurie that she needs to go get his gun, give it to him and hide.
She hides and throws rocks at the men.. The robbers shoot at Janie for throwing the rocks at them and July hears the gunfire, fires back, scaring off the robbers and reunites with Roscoe.
Frogs. She likes to ask people if they've ever eaten a frog and no one has, which she thinks is funny.
Janie. Janie is being abused by Big Sam, who bought her, and she breaks his legs while he is sleeping to escape from him and to follow Roscoe, moving faster in bare feet than he does on his horse!
Roscoe Brown. Peach with her pushy ways forces Roscoe to go after July even though the likelihood of finding him is slim in a state as big as Texas. His trip is full of worries from the start, because Roscoe has led a sheltered life.
After many trials, Call burys Gus where requested and makes it back to Lonesome Dove. A reporter tries to interview him when he walks downtown. Call doesn't want to talk, of course, but among other things he says that he heard that Call is, a man of what? | "Lonesome Dove" : #3
