His 21st birthday. On his 21st birthday, Sam learned that his parents had sold his soul to the Devil. Now, he must work as Satan's personal bounty hunter (or Reaper) to collect souls that escaped from hell. Sam was terrified to know that he had to work for the Devil; he even almost gave up at one moment because he felt that he was not the right person for the task. However, the Devil told him that if he did not want to work for him, then he would take away his mother's life.
He is buried alive. Although he is buried alive, Sam's father survives. This is the cliffhanger that leaves you wondering about Sam's true family background.

Tony and Steve. Tony and Steve are a pair of homosexual demons. After their introduction, they remain in the majority of the rest of the season.
Sock and Ben. Ben and Sock think it will be cool to capture souls. They aren't let down. Ben almost gets killed in the first episode, when he is attacked by a soul with the power to shoot fire from his body.
Andi. Sam's on again, off again relationship with Andi helped to keep the show running outside of the soul hunting.

The Devil. Steve and Tony knew Sam communicated with the Devil so they used Sam to contact the Devil. Both Steve and Tony gathered more demons and told them about their plan to kill the Devil. By killing the Devil, Sam's soul would finally be set free. Little did Sam know that this was part of the Devil's plan. In the end, all the demons were killed by the Devil instead.

Sam was terrified to see this and he told Sock and Ben to get into the car quickly. They picked up Andi but the car crashed into a block. Andi woke up in a hospital and Ben informed her that she had a concussion.
