Jody. Debbie took the kid after he was lost. This caused a huge police search around the estate. Afraid of themselves been sent to prison as kidnapping is a serious crime, Steve and Fiona persuaded Debbie to return the child and tell the police a bogus story. Debbie was successful and earned a lot of money off Jody's parents and their friends.

France. Frank woke up in a French park and had hangover. He walked around France and was confused by the signs not saying anything in English.
Frank. Frank played a very good corpse. On several occasions people tried waking him up but they failed. The commercials for this episode made us believe he was dead, but Frank will never die until Tony Blair is out of the office.
Kash. Kash is a Muslim who has a wife and two kids, but is in love with Ian. This creates much intensity during the middle of the series. The two of them are eventually found out.
Yes. Frank's wife turns up in the final two episodes with her girlfriend. They both give Frank trouble and attempt to repair the mother's relationship with her children. However, they fail miserably.

Carrie Anne. Carrie Anne thinks that Steve is her uncle, and he only sees her a few times a year.

Fortunately, Steve didn't leave Fiona heartbroken for long, as he returns in the final episode of series two.
Moira Hindley. Maxine Peake, the actress who plays Veronica, starred in the TV special "See No Evil: The Moors Murders" as the notorious Mancunian Moira Hindley.
