The Whiffenpoofs. According to en.wikipedia.org, The Nasoons (Princeton), The Aires (Dartmouth) and The Krokodiloes (Harvard) were also college a capella groups, however it was the Whiffenpoofs of Yale University, who were singing in the West Wing of the Bartlet White House during a particularly snowy day.
Josiah Bartlet had won the Illinois Primary. The episode "In The Shadow of Two Gunmen Part 2" showed bits of Bartlet's first presidential campaign. When his victory in the Illinois Primary was announced, "Celebration" was played in the background, however Josh felt it should have been changed for the Doobie Brothers.
Van Morrison. Josh was confused as to why Amy was listening to Van Morrison but doing a scene from "Flashdance". Later in the scene, Amy asked Josh why she was dancing, to which he replied, "Nobody really knows!"
Explosion at an Iowa college swimming gala. All of the other events occurred during the seven season run of "The West Wing", however a pipe bomb exploding at Kennison State University was the reason why this version of the Boomtown Rats' song was played during the episode "20 Hours In America Part 2".
Matt Santos' inauguration. Arnold Vinick was never elected president. Bartlet's first inauguration occurred before the series began. Although Bartlet's second inauguration took place in series four, the ceremony on the steps of the Capitol was not seen.
At the inauguration of Matt Santos, whilst Keb' Mo' was playing we got to see the clearance of the Bartlet's possessions from the White House and the introduction of the Santos' belongings as the transition of power occurred.

Joy To The World. Josh was having a meeting with Dr. Stanley Keyworth of the American Trauma Victims Association. Various members of senior staff had become concerned about Josh's behaviour following the suicide of an air force pilot, who coincidentally shared Josh's birthday. This behaviour culminated in Josh shouting at the President in the Oval Office and putting his hand through a window.
Dr. Keyworth reasoned that it wasn't the pilot that was the source of Josh's behaviour, but the brass quintet, as in Josh's mind, music was exactly the same as the sirens found on emergency vehicles.
James Taylor. President Bartlet was posthumously awarding a medal to Sam Cooke. James Taylor was the surprise guest playing at the White House. He played Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" to the assembled audience. Exactly which medal was being awarded was not mentioned.
Leo McGarry had died. Some polls had closed and the Foo Fighters were playing in the hall. Annabeth found Leo slumped in his bathroom. However, unlike his previous heart attack, this one was fatal for Leo. Congressman Santos interrupted the Foo Fighters' set to announce the news.
Zoey Bartlet's kidnapping. Having graduated, Zoey Bartlet attended a celebration at a local club prior to flying off to France with Jean-Paul the following day. However, somehow the secret service agents managed to lose sight of her and whilst trying to find Zoey, realised that a fire escape was open... Just the kind of occurrence the President had predicted in the first series.
