Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Wolfenstein
William Joseph Blazkowicz . Blazkowicz' full name can be found on page 12 of the manual of "RTCW" in the bottom section of 'Wolfenstein Lore'. His nickname, B.J., is probably derived from his first and middle name, 'B' probably standing for Bill (short for William) and 'J' standing for Joseph.
Captain. Blazkowicz' rank is Captain. It's also found on Page 12 of the manual.
Minigun. The 'Venom Gun' is a weapon to be feared. It's a powerful minigun that can literally tear your enemies (or yourself if wielded by the opponent) apart. Its drawback is the fact it gets overheated, it needs some spin-up time and it's rather inaccurate. A skilled soldier can take out a minigunner with a well-placed headshot before he has the chance to hit you.
3. There are 3 Sub-Machine Guns: the MP-40 (standard Axis SMG), the Thompson (standard issue Allied SMG) and the Sten Gun (silenced SMG). The FG-42 Paratrooper Rifle is NOT a SMG but an Assault Rifle. There are no dedicated Machineguns in the game, btw, save for the mounted MG-42's .
15. You can carry up to 15 Potato Mashers and Pine-apple Grenades. You can carry up to 10 dynamite charges and 4 Grenades is the maximum amount for Soldier Class in Multiplayer (The Medics and Lieutenants can carry 1 and the Engineer can carry 8).
372. The correct answer is 372! You can carry up to 300 in clips on your belt. But there are also bullets in your Luger Pistol, MP-40 and Sten. If all are fully loaded you have 300 + 8 + 32 + 32 making up for a total of 372 rounds, not 300. 32 are the number of rounds in one MP-40 clip and 96 is the number of extra rounds you can carry around in Multiplayer, when using a MP-40.
4. There are 4 weapons that can be classified as Silent weapons. Those are the Luger 9-mm with Silencer, the Sten SMG, the OSA Snooper Rifle (Garand Sniper Rifle) and last but not least your trusty old knife.
Polish. According to the "RTCW" manual (yep, the famous page 12), B.J. was born to Polish Immigrants. That info was taken from the hint book to the original Wolfenstein 3D.
5. You have to kill 5 officers to complete the mission and avoid that the alarm is being raised as well. The officers are Major Hochstedder, General von Stauff, Colonel Strache, General Burkhalter and General Haupman.
This level remains my favourite.
How many starting rounds (thus both clips loaded INTO his gun and extra clips) does an Allied Engineer have in Multiplayer? | "Return to Castle Wolfenstein"
|
62. It's 62. The Thompson has 30 rounds loaded into it. For some odd reason, the Allied Engineer has 32 extra rounds instead of 30. This is presumably a bug, but it was never changed.
I need ammo . Next to V + 2 + 1 (Medic!) probably the most used quickchat in the game.
How many different two-handed weapons (thus no knife, pistol or grenades) can a Soldier Class choose from in "RTCW" Multiplayer? | "Return to Castle Wolfenstein"
|
7. Seven weapons can be chosen: the MP-40, the Thompson, the Sten, the Mauser, the Venom Gun, the Panzerfaust and the Flamethrower.
The Panzerfaust is probably most feared since it is a popular weapon among the n00bs; since it can deal out lots of damage it guarantees an easy kill. But quite often n00bs blow up some teammates as well when using the 'Panzer'.
The Lieutenant. The Lieutenant can use the binocs to call in artillery strikes. Simply press the 'b' button to take out your binocs. They are also useful for spotting snipers or generally every soldier walking across the battlefield. Note that your power bar has to be full in order to call in an artillery strike and that several seconds will pass between the 'mouseclick' and the first shell hitting the ground. Some mods changed the gameplay and allow other classes to use binocs as well, though the other classes are unable to call in artillery. It still remains useful to spot targets.
Ammo for the two-handed weapons and grenades. Ammo packs give you one clip for your two-handed weapon and one grenade and only if you have not reached the maximum amount of bullets/grenades. The only way to replenish pistol ammo is to get a pistol from a dead soldier (other players only drop their pistols if the pistol was the readied weapon at time of death). Note that only soldiers on the same team can provide you with the pistol ammo you need, since Axis and Allies use different pistols (the Axis use the Luger 9-mm and the Allies use the Colt .45). Since the 1.4 Patch, Ammo Packs now supply 8 rounds for the pistol as well up to the max (32 rounds).
Plant dynamite, disarm dynamite and repair MG-42 machine guns. The Engineer can plant dynamite to blow up objective items. Of course an Engineer can also disarm dynamite and he can also repair damaged machineguns.
10. Medics do use Health Packs to heal others, but syringes are used to revive fallen soldiers who have not gone to limbo mode yet.
The map 'Fuel Dump' was the first map to be released as a multiplayer demo. What was the second map released as a demo version before the release of the full version? | Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
|
There was no other map released. Only 'Fuel Dump' was released as demo. It served the developers to improve and tweak the game before the original release and give gamers the chance to taste the game as they did with releasing 'Beach' for "RTCW". One very big improvement made with the full version of "W:ET" was the updating of the unit sounds, especially the Axis sounded terrible in the demo.
"W:ET" features several changes compared to "RTCW". One new class has been introduced, existing ones expanded and one class from "RTCW" has been renamed. The new name for this class is 'Field Ops'. What was the name of this class in "RTCW"? | Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
|
Lieutenant. The Lieutenant class was renamed to 'Field Ops' because of the introduction of the ranking system. Players gain Experience Points (XP) and advance in rank, hence the class needed to be renamed. It would be kinda strange to have "Lieutenant Private Blitzwing" so the new class says "Field Ops Private Blitzwing".
He has maintained his abilities. He still drops ammo packs for his teammates and can call in airstrikes and artillery strikes for which he is equipped with Binoculars by default. By using those skills frequent and effectively he can also increase that skill (the Signal Skill) resulting in mega ammo packs (which replenish two clips instead of one), increased support fire (two planes instead of one with an airstrike and a longer lasting artillery strike), the ability to deploy support fire quicker (which means the power bar doesn't need to be fully charged anymore to deploy them) and finally if his skill reaches the highest level he gains the ability to spot enemy Covert Ops in disguise and relay that info to teammates.
A Field Ops is extremely important as he can replenish the ammo for his teammates (be aware that dropped ammo picks can be picked up by either side as well though). On some maps you might find ammo cabinets on the map but usually they aren't found and the only way to get ammo is either from a Field Ops or picking up dropped weapons from slain soldiers.
The Field Ops and Covert Ops have binoculars by default. Other classes can obtain them as well by increasing in a certain skill. How can they obtain binoculars? | Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
|
By reaching Battle Sense Level 1. Skills are a new feature for "W:ET". Performing certain actions can improve XP for certain skill types and at a certain amount you gain a level for that skill. Going up in level with a skill is always rewarded with a reward and often associated with a promotion in rank. There are two common Skills for all classes, Battle Sense and Light Weapons. The rewards for gaining a level in these skills is the same for all classes.
Each class also has a class specific skill which is increased by using the class' special ability. The Medic has the First Aid skill which increases everytime he uses his healthpacks to heal others or revives fallen teammates.
The Engineer has the Engineering skill improved by planting dynamite at objectives or battlefield constructions or disarming dynamite or mines from the opponents, making kills with landmines and constructing battlefield constructions.
The Field Ops has the Signals skill which can be increased by handing out ammo to teammates or by making kills with support fire (destroying vehicles like tanks or trucks also counts as a kill).
The Soldier has the Heavy Weapons skill which is associated with his two handed weapons (Soldiers can't use SMGs). Note that other classes also can advance in Heavy Weapons by using emplaced MG-42s. Should a class other than Soldier gain Heavy Weapons Level 4 by using such weapons he can achieve the ability to pick up dropped heavy weapons from a dead Soldier class player.
The Covert Ops has the Covert Operations skill which includes sniping and disguising himself as an enemy by stealing uniforms.
XP and gained skill levels with rewards carry over to the next map when you play in campaign mode. When playing exceptionally long campaigns it's possible to max out all skills and possibly attain the rank of General. This element makes it enourmous fun to play Campaigns.
You are rewarded with binoculars when you reach Battle Sense Level 1. You can increase your Battle Sense XP by being active in combat. You get 2XP for every 30 seconds that you have inflicted damage. You get 5XP for every 30 seconds that you inflicted and received damage and 8XP for every 30 seconds that you make kills and receive damage. Battle Sense Level 2 increases your fitness causing your stamina bar to recharge 160% of the normal rate. Battle Sense Level 3 improves your health, giving you 15 more Hit Points and Battle Sense Level 4 gives you the ability to spot traps (land mines). Unlike the Covert Ops you can't relay that information to your teammates. If Covert Ops spot landmines with their binocs all teammates are alerted and the mines mapped on your command map. If a soldier with Battle Sense Level 4 spots one it isn't but of course he can still warn the rest of the team by using the teamchat ('y' button).
Battle Sense is one of the common skills which all classes share. Light Weapons is the other common skill, shared by every class. The usage of what kind of weapons improves Light Weapons ? (usages means killing opponents with it, just damaging doesn't count, this only counts for Battle Sense. SMG stands for 'Sub Machine Gun', referring to the MP-40, Thompson and Sten.) | Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
|
Knives, Pistols, SMGs, Grenades and Unscoped Rifles. Light Weapons is improved by making kills with small arms. These include Knives, Pistols (9mm Luger for the Axis and .45 Colt for the Allies), SMGs (9mm MP-40 for the Axis, .45 Thompson for the Allies and the 9mm silenced Sten for both sides, the Sten being restricted to the Covert Ops class), Grenades (Potato Mashers for Axis and Pineapple Grenades for Allies, both handgrenade and riflegrenade versions) and Unscoped Rifles (K43 Mauser for the Axis Engineer and M1 Garand for the Allied Engineer).
Scoped Rifles are restricted to the Covert Ops. Making skills will Scoped Rifles (M1 Garand Sniper Silenced for Allies, K43 Mauser Sniper Silenced for Axis and the FG-42 Paratrooper Rifle (Fallschirmjäger Gewehr) for both sides) increases XPs for the class specific skill 'Covert Operations' for the Covert Ops.
3XP are awarded for kills with grenades or limb- and bodyshots kills by small arms and 5XP for Headshot kills.
Engineer. The Engineer receives a Flak Jacket when reaching Level 4 of the Engineering skill. Flak Jackets deflect 50% of the damage taken by the Engineer wearing it, making him more hard to kill and give him more time to complete his objectives (planting dyno or creating battlefield constructions for example). Achieving Level 1 gives the Engineer increased number of explosives at respawn (8 handgrenades and 8 riflegrenades when using the K43/M1), Level 2 allows the Engineer to plant or disarm dyno and landmines in half the normal time and Level 3 improves his ability to construct battlefield structures, planting and disarming dynamite and land mines by using 1/3rd less Power Bar charge than normal. Once the Power Bar reaches the bottom, the progress gets very slow.
One weapon that had been available in "RTCW"s singleplayer part only made its way into the multiplayer part of "W:ET". Which weapon is this? | Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
|
FG-42 Paratrooper Rifle. The FG-42 Paratrooper Rifle was designated as an Assault Rifle in "RTCW" and was very powerfull. In the real world it's more something between Sub-Machine Gun and Assault Rifle. It packed the powerfull German 7.92mm cardridge which was also used in the K98 Mauser and had a decent firing rate and a scope. This weapon was probably a player favourite in the singleplayer campaign but for balance reasons was left out in the multiplayer part.
The Tesla Gun never made it's way into multiplayer part and the MG-42 was not available as portable weapon in "RTCW" at all, just as gunemplacements. The OSA Snooper Rifle did not make it's way into "W:ET". It had been left out of "RTCW" multiplayer part as well for balance reasons. The M1 Garand Silenced Sniperrifle in "W:ET" is a lot like it, the Snooper was also a modified M1 Garand but the OSA Snooper Rifle was unique because of it's scope that allowed some sort of night view. The sniper rifle in "W:ET" does not have this.
Dual Pistols. Achieving Light Weapons Level 4 gives a player the option to wield dual pistols instead of one, just like the dual .45 Colt in "RTCW" singleplayer part. Level 1 gives the player an extra ammunition clip on spawn, Level 2 decreases the reload enabling you to reload 35% faster and Level 3 increases your accuracy with small arms by reducing the bullet spread of SMGs by 35% and reducing the recoil of pistols with 50%. There is no reward or what so ever that makes increases your firing rate. If you encounter someone with an exceptional rate of fire that person is probably using cheats (though lags sometimes can make it appear that some people fire faster than others).
Temporarily bonus to health and stamina to the Medic himself. Stamina is not drained and 50% of damage taken reduced. Adrenaline Shot is gained as a reward when the Medic gains First Aid Level 4 (Adrenalin Self). The Adrenaline Shot is used on the Medic himself and lasts for 10 seconds. During that time the Medic takes only 50% damage and his stamina bar doesn't drain from running or jumping. This can aid the Medic in quickly crossing a battlefield under heavy fire to revive or heal teammates in despair or making him an excellent 'docs runner'. Reviving a fallen teammate to full health is a reward for gaining First Aid Level 3 (Instant Revives).
"W:ET" has four possible modes for Multi Player. "RTCW" only had three (Objective Mode, Stopwatch and Checkpoint). The 'Checkpoint' mode has been removed in "W:ET". Campaign mode is a new mode. Which is the other new mode available in "W:ET"? | Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
|
Last Man Standing. Objective Mode is playing the map with the Objectives. You win by achieving your main mission objectives. Stopwatch does the same thing but this time teams try to beat each others time. First Team B assaults while A defends. Then Team A assaults and has to try to beat the time set by Team B (example: If Team B finishes a map with 5:30 left out of 10 minutes, then Team A only has 4:30 complete to win, since it took Team B only 4:30 to win (10 minutes minus 5 minutes, 30 seconds left on the clock)).
Checkpoint mode has several Checkpoints (flags) scattered on the map. To win such a scenario, a team most control all flags. As soon as a team has possession of all flags it wins. You must both defend the flags you have and try to capture the ones you miss.
The new Campaign mode links Objective bases maps together forming a Campaign. XP, ranks and Skills all carry over until the Campaign is completed. When a new Campaign starts, everyone starts as a Private/Schütze with 0 XP. In long Campaigns (for instance 10 maps) players playing from the first map usually get a well developed character, sometimes maxed out in all his categories (sometimes even multi Class). People joining in on the 10th map of the Campaign usually find it hard to compete as Private with all the Majors and stuff who have gained several bonusses. Any of the just mentioned modes can also be won if the Maximum Lives feature is enabled and every player from one team has lost all their lives (skulled).
The Last Man Standing is a new variant introduced, similar to Team Death Match. Each player has one life and one life only. As soon as one Team is eradicated, the surviving team wins. There are no objectives to be completed and no Experience Points gained. It's not possible to link Last Man Standing maps into a Campaign.
Würzburg. The full name of this map is 'Würzburg Rader'. Paderborn featured in "RTCW" singleplayer part, being the village in Mission 6, part 2, where you have to eliminate 5 Nazi officers. Hamburg was known for it's shipyards and Remagen held an important bridge which the Germans failed to blow up in March 1945, much aiding in the Western Allies' advance into Germany. In the 'Radar' map the Allies must assault an Axis compound and steal parts of a new type of radar and store it in a getaway truck. To do this they first need to breach the complex by using Engineers to blow up doors. The mission is a succes as soon as both radar parts are stored in the truck (the truck doesn't need to be kept in full repair or escorted anywhere like the truck in 'Gold Rush').
11. There are 11 ranks available. Those ranks are (listed as 'Axis/Allied'): Schütze (Stz)/Private (PVT), Oberschütze (Otz)/Private 1st Class (PFC), Gefreiter (Gfr)/Corporal (Cpl), Feldwebel (Fwb)/Sergeant (Sgt), Leutnant (Ltn)/Lieutenant (Lt), Hauptmann (Hpt)/Captain (Cpt), Major (Mjr)/Major (Maj), Oberst (Obs)/Colonel (Cnl), Generalmajor (GMj)/Brigadier General (BGn), Generalleutnant (GLt)/Lieutenant General (LtG), General (Gnl)/General (Gen).
All except the Schütze/Private have insigna on the helmets. You can tell by the helmet what rank another player has (unless his helm has been shot of).
Load the Rail Gun and fire it (Allies win if Axis fail to do this in the time given). This map is very fun. The Axis objective is to get ordnance to the Rail Gun and fire it. Sounds simple, but it isn't. The Rail Gun (sometimes called 'choo choo gun' by some players) and ammo are on the opposite sides of the map. The Axis have to bring a first Rail Road Tug to the munitions depot and use a crane to load the ammunition onto it. They then have to drive the Tug to a switch station, bring a second Tug into position and load the Ammo to the second Tug. They then have to drive that second Tug to the Rail Gun and load the ammo into the gun. Finally someone has to push the firing button. The gun has to be in working state to do this.
The Allies can destroy the gun with dynamite. Axis Engineers need to repair it first if this has occured. The Allies can also drive Tugs back to their starting location, forcing the Axis to get it again. The Allies can further more lower track barriers to stop the tugs. Axis need to open those barriers before they can move the Tug through. The Allies will usually try to occupy and hold one of the key positions (munitions depot, switch station, track barrier or gun) while trying to disrupt the Tug movements as well. Axis need to work from one objective to another. First get the first Tug to the ammo, load it then, then get back to the switch station and so on. This requires a great deal of coordination and thus team play and this makes the map so fun.
At the end of a match (each map when playing in Campaign mode) medals and titles are awarded to players like 'Best Medic'. What does it mean when you get the 'I Ain't Got No Friends Award'? | Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
|
It means you had the most team kills of all players. This award is actually something you don't want to get. It means you team-killed the most. A team-kill (TK) is when you kill someone on your own team. This can be by accident or intent. Players who TK on purpose are usually quickly dispatched by game admins and banned. Sometimes new players are inexperienced and accidently TK a lot annoying players. Such 'newbies' are often kicked but not banned. An automated system can be used to allow players to file complaints when TKed against the player who killed them. If a player gains a certain amount of votes (for example 5) he gets automatically kicked. Players should be carefull with kicking someone though as team kills happen to best in the fray of battle.
More advanced players sometimes team-kill to do a 'TK revive'. When a medic with First Aid level 3 or higher reaches a badly wounded soldier (down to 10 health for example) he often shoots this soldier. He then revives him. The First Aid level 3 award brings the fallen back to full health. When the soldier is very low on life this method is quicker than tossing healthpacks. Time can mean anything on the battlefield. If this happens to you and the voting system is enabled, DON'T file a complaint against the medic as he is just using his resources with maximum efficiency. It's not uncommon to have 'I Ain't Got No Friends Awards' in long campaigns were the Medic's are experienced.
Speed up the recharge rate of the Power Bars of ALL players in that team. Constructed Command Posts are very important. They speed up the recharge rate of the Power Bars of the entire team which means that Soldiers can fire their mortars or panzerfausts more quickly, that Medics can drop health packs quicker, Field Ops can drop ammo packs more quick and call in Support Fire more quick, Engineers do their stuff more quicker as do Covert Ops. In short, it's important. In some levels Command Posts can also create ammo and health cabinets. They hold the same packs as dropped by a Medic or Field Ops and can be used by either side. Sometimes constructing a Command Post also creates a spawn point at that location.
Command Posts are constructed by Engineers and can be blown up by enemy Engineers or Covert Ops (using Satchel charges). Command Posts are always secondary objectives and thus not mandatory but they are very helpfull.
Blue. Blue walls are found in almost every level of the game.
