Children's Defense Fund. Hillary Rodham first met Marian Wright Edelman while she was a law student student at Yale and Mrs. Edelman was a civil rights attorney. She served on the board of the group for many years. The Children's Defense Fund was designated as one of the "American Idol Gives Back" beneficiaries in 2008.
Health care. Quickly dubbed "Hillarycare" by its opponents, the final plan presented by Mrs. Clinton and the Task Force on National Health Care Reform proved to be unpopular and was abandoned a year later. She found later success in championing 1997's State Children's Health Insurance program and helped create the Office on Violence Against Women within the Department of Justice.
Daniel Patrick Moynihan. In running for the Senate from New York, Mrs. Clinton became the first First Lady to seek political office. Her opponent was Republican Congressman Rick Lazio who was soundly defeated despite criticism that she was a carpetbagger who had never resided in New York and lacked experience as an elected official. While in the Senate (2001-2009), Senator Clinton was generally thought to have performed well.
Tip O'Neill was a Congressman from Massachusetts (1953 - 1987) and the Speaker of the US House of Representatives from 1977-1987. When first elected in 1953 he took over the House seat formerly held by John F. Kennedy, who had been elected to the Senate. He was succeeded in 1987 by Joseph P. Kennedy, the son of the late New York Senator and US Attorney General Robert Kennedy.
Mario Cuomo was the Governor of New York from 1983-1994. Rudolph Giuiani was the US Attorney for New York where he made his crime-busting reputation prosecuting Wall Street financiers like Ivan Boesky and Michael Milken and members of organized crime. He was the Mayor of New York City from 1993-2001.

While First Lady, she had landed in Bosnia under sniper fire. The quote that garnered so much attention read "I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base." (New York Times; March 25, 2008)
