William Taft, his son, was the 27th President of the USA, and a grandson and great-grandson were US Senators. His great-great-grandson, Robert A. Taft II, was the Governor of Ohio from 1999 to 2007, and William Howard Taft III was ambassador to Ireland. William Howard Taft IV was Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1984 to 1989.

The 7th Inning Stretch. As the story goes, Taft was attending a baseball game and stood up to stretch his legs during the 7th inning. Since the president stood up, so too did the crowd, creating the 7th inning stretch. There are several other possible origins for this tradition as well.

Charles Evans Hughes. Taft originally appointed Hughes to the court. Hughes left the court in 1916 to run for president and later was re-appointed to the court by President Herbert Hoover to succeed Taft as Chief Justice. Taft loved being Chief Justice, it was literally his dream come true.
