November 10, 1775. Formed in Philadelphia at Tun Tavern, the Marine Corps was originally under the supervision of the Commander of the Navy. Although the U.S. Marines now have their own identity in the military service, they are still in part with the navy. Every year on Nov. 10, the Marines have a social ball to celebrate their birthday where all enlisted men and officers get dressed up in the dress blues and attend the function.
World War Two. The United States Air Force was officially dedicated to full military service in 1948. Beforehand, the Air Force was (and basically still is) part of the U.S. Army. It was officially known as the Army Air Corps until getting its own "identity".
American Revolutionary War. Can you believe that the Navy was officially disbanded shortly after the American Revolution? But don't worry, our Navy came back shortly afterwards. Thanks in part to the U.S. Constitution and Congress, they were put back in action and still sails the vast oceans protecting the United States to this very day!
June 14, 1775. The U.S. Army officially came into being on June 14, 1784. There was a Continental Army, but that was disbanded right after the American Revolution. It is now known as the U.S. Army.
Alexander Hamilton. Originally called the United States Revenue Cutter Service, their main objective was to collect taxes from patriot pirates as they "tried" to bring in objects from other countries, like tea, weapons, etc.
Semper Fidelis. Semper Fidelis = "Always Faithful". Semper Paratus = "Always Prepared" and is the motto of the U.S. Coast Guard. "This We'll Defend" is an old motto of the U.S. Army.
