Let's start at my old home: Sakura-Shinmachi. Riding four stops to the east, we arrive at Shibuya. What Eidan line does the Den-entoshi (Shin-Tamagawa) sen link to at Shibuya?

Hanzômon sen. At Shibuya, the Den-entoshi sen has a direct link to the Hanzômon sen. You can also transfer to the JR Yamanote sen, Tokyu Toyoko sen or the Ginza sen. Shibuya is the place for local punks, work, and shopping. Strange combo, huh?

Riding another four stops to the east, we arrive at this big station. Five lines (Marunôchi, Hanzômon, Ginza, Yugatacho, Namboku) connect at this station, and another one linked with it. With Nagatacho station, what is the other station called?

Akasaka-Mitsuke. The station, along with Ôtemachi station and Tameike-Sanno/Kokkai-gijidō-mae, is the only ones with five eidan lines connected at the area.

Let's transfer to the Ginza sen. We ride more to the east until we get off at Ginza station. If we want to go to Tôkyo station, which line should we take?

Marunôchi sen. Ginza is the original high-class shopping centre. Many of the old buildings from the 1920's are still there.

Uhh we decided against going to Tôkyo as rush hour is here. Instead, we go on the Hibiya sen all the way to Ueno (nine stops)! What is so special about Ueno?

All of these (It has a Zoo., It is a transfer station for Shinkansen (bullet train)., It is a major station.). Ueno station is usually the second stop for shinkansen going to the north. It usually starts at Tokyo and makes a brief stop at Ueno, before stopping at Omiya station then branching out.

Let's take a shortcut on the JR Yamanote sen to Ikebukuro (even though it's not an eidan line). Quick! Help me decide what line to go on before we get trampled by the crowd! (We are in Ueno Station).

Stay on the JR Yamanote sen.. Japan is well known for its polite residents, and even in a crowd, one can usually hear voices shouting "Gommennasai!" (Sorry!), or "Daijoubu desu ka?" (Are you okay?). They have the good habit of letting people get off trains first and standing on one side (the left) of the elevator to assist harried people.

Taking another shortcut, we ride the Tôei Ôedo sen south five stops to Azabu-Juban station. If we translate this into English, which translation of Azabu-Juban gives the closest meaning?

No. 10 Azabu. Azabu-Juban connects the Tōei Ōedo sen with the Namboku sen. The Namboku sen is famous for its automatic doors and elevators :) and clean, white subways.

Going one stop north to Roppongi-Itchōme station, we stop for a rest. What trains can you transfer to at this station?

None. Roppongi-Itchōme station and Kamiyacho station on the Hibiya sen are the stops you would get off to the American Club and embassy.

We go up one more stop to Tameike-Sanno station. It has a direct link to Kokkai-gijidō-mae station. If I want to go west towards Yokohama city, which train should I take?

Ginza sen towards Shibuya. The most direct way to Yokohama from Tameike-Sanno is to take the Ginza line to Shibuya, and then take a direct route via the Toyoko line all the way to Yokohama station. The whole trip would take around 30-40 minutes.

We get on the Ginza sen at Tameike-Sanno, and go west five stations. What station am I in now?

Shibuya. Going west, the stations are Tameike-Sanno, Akasaka-Mitsuke, Aoyama-Itchōme, Gaienmae, Omote-Sando, Shibuya.

Now we want to get to Yokohama's China Town in Sakura-gichō station, which is three stations to the left of Yokohama station (wheee). What way is the best way to get there?

Take the Toyoko sen directly from Shibuya.. There are numerous ways to get to Yokohama, but the incorrect ones either get you nowhere (Jiyugaoka) or take longer (shinkansen or Futako). Therefore we end our journey at ChinaTown and enjoy plates of Chinese Food!
