    Milan. Milan (Milano) is the second city in Italy. It has about 1,200,000 inhabitants as a municipality and about 3,000,000 as urban area. It contends with Paris for the title of Fashion Capital of the World. Brescia is the second city in Lombardy (about 200,000 inhabitants). Turin is the capital of Piedmont and Venice is the capital of Veneto.

Lombardy is mostly lowlands, but there are many mountains on the northern side. What is the highest?
    Bernina. Bernina is half Italian and half Swiss. It is 4,050 meters high. Grigna and Resegone are Lombardian mountains too, but they are lower. Monte Rosa is higher (4,634 mts.), but it is in the Piedmont.

Lombardy has many lakes. What is the largest entirely in Lombardy (the most beautiful of lakes, according to many commentators?
    Lago di Como. Lago di Garda is the largest lake, but it is shared between Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino. Lago Maggiore is shared between Lombardy, Piedmont and Switzerland. Lago d'Iseo is smaller than Lago di Como.

After lakes, rivers: what is the longest river entirely in Lombardy?
    Adda. The Po and the Ticino both cross Lombardy, but they cross other regions too (Po: Piedmont, Emily and Veneto; Ticino: Switzerland and Piedmont). The Arno is in Tuscany (there is an Arno in Lombardy too, but it is no more than a torrent).

    Pavia. The University of Pavia was established in 1361.

    Longobards. The Longobards were rulers of Lombardy in VII century. They called it Longobardia, hence its name.

    Valtellina. The most renowned wines of Valtellina are Sforzato, Inferno, Grumello and Sassella.
