Special Sub-Topic: All About Adam and Eve

What does Adam's name mean?

Man. "Adam" is the Hebrew word for "man." Eve's name also has a special meaning; it probably means "living."

According to Genesis 2, Adam and Eve were created on the same day.
    f. Adam was created on the sixth and last day of creation. Genesis 2:18-22 says that God created Eve somewhat later (the Bible doesn't say how much time elapsed, but it was after the seventh day, on which God rested). It should be noted that Genesis 1:27, which says, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them," could imply that man and woman were created simultaneously, but this does not agree with the more detailed story in Genesis 2.

From which part of Adam's body did God make Eve?
Rib. God created Eve because, He said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him" (Genesis 2:18). He put Adam in a deep sleep and took one of his ribs from which to make the woman.

What tree were Adam and Eve forbidden to eat from?
The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil were located in the center of the garden. After Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, God had to banish them from the garden, lest Adam "be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever" (Genesis 3:22).

What animal tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit?
snake & serpent. Eve told the serpent (the devil) that when God forbade her to eat the fruit, He told her she would die if she ate it. The serpent replied, "You will not surely die... For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil" (Genesis 3:4-5).

What kind of fruit did Adam and Eve eat?
The Bible doesn't say. The Bible never mentions what kind of fruit the forbidden fruit was. The story is in Genesis 3:6: "When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it."

When Adam and Eve realized they were naked, what did they use to cover themselves?
Fig leaves. After eating the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve were ashamed of their nakedness, and sewed fig leaves into garments to cover themselves. When God banished them from the garden, He made clothing out of animal skins for them to wear.

Which of Adam and Eve's sons murdered his brother?
Cain&Kain&Qain&Kayin. Cain and Abel both offered sacrifices to God. God was pleased with Abel's offering, but not with Cain's, thus Cain killed Abel in his fury. God sentenced him to wander the earth, a nomad for the rest of his days.

How many years did Adam live?
930 years. According to Genesis 5:3, Adam was 130 years old when he fathered his son Seth, and he lived 800 years after that and had other sons and daughters. He lived to see his great-great-great-great-great-great-grandson, Lamech the father of Noah, who was born when he was 874 years old.

Eve's third son was the ancestor of Noah and therefore the ancestor of all living humans (since all of humanity except Noah's family perished in the Flood). What was his name?
Seth. Seth's name probably means "granted." Eve chose that name because, she said, "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him" (Genesis 4:25). I hope you enjoyed my quiz! If you'd like to learn more about Adam and Eve, you can find their story in the book of Genesis, chapters 2-3.
