Fun Trivia: D : Dark Knight, The (2008)

Special Sub-Topic: All About The Joker - Part 1

The first scene in the movie is the robbery of a bank. This bank is the starting point of the Joker's overall scheme of the movie. We first see his face when he is telling the bank manager, "I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you _______."

stranger. This is the first sequence in the movie. It just shows how well thought out all of the Joker's plans can be. He just has all his helpers kill each other off, then all he has to do is kill one person. The quote is a different take on the quote "whatever doesn't kill you only makes you stronger." It just makes the bank manager more terrified of him, especially when the Joker puts the "grenade" into his mouth. Even though it turns out to only be a smoke grenade.

The main mob criminals all meet up to hold a meeting about their money and what they plan to do with keeping it safe. Mr. Lau informs them that he has already moved their money to his account in Hong Kong. The Joker shows up and informs the mob that it doesn't matter if he moved their money there, Batman will find him. What does the Joker say Lau is?
A Squealer. The Joker says that Lau is a squealer, to prove his point that Batman will find him and the mob will lose all their money. He's also trying to convince the mob that they need him to get back to the way things were. This scene goes further into showing how the Joker has a plan for everything, by having his jacket filled with grenades, in the case that the mob attacks him.

When the Joker first arrives at the meeting of all the mob criminals, he performs a magic trick on a lackey of one of the mobsters. You all know that this magic trick is making a pencil disappear, but do you know who was the mobster who sent his lackey to rip the Joker's head off?
Gambol. This isn't the scene where you learn Gambol's name, but it is the scene where you are introduced to Gambol, his bodyguard (who now has a pencil in his head), and the rest of the mob. Gambol's name is actually mentioned not much later in the movie, when the Joker ambushes Gambol and tells Gambol the story of how he got his scars.

There are two different stories that the Joker tells involving about how he got his scars. The first story involves his father. What doesn't he say his father was?
A Criminal. "My father was a drinker, and a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual." At this point in the movie, you feel as though you are getting a sense of why the Joker does what he does. Unfortunately, he tells Rachel, later in the movie, another story about how he got his scars, so you can't be sure which story is true.

Fill in the missing part of the first scar story told by the Joker. "Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that, not one bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does. And he turns to me and he says _____?' He comes at me with the knife, '____?' Sticks the blade in my mouth 'Let's put a smile on that face' and '____?'
why so serious. The story makes you think you're getting a good look into the Joker's past, but as you are shown throughout the rest of the movie, his past is very mysterious and he wishes to not tell us by constantly changing his story.

Does the Joker say, "Now our operation is small, but there's a lot of potential for aggressive expansion. So which of you fine gentlemen would like to join our team?"
Yes. This scene is immediately following the first scar story that the Joker tells to Gambol. The Joker wants to have another member on his team, so he lets three of Gambol's guards fight amongst themselves to determine who will be the last member of the Joker's team.

The Joker makes a video tape of himself and a man dressed up as Batman (who he kills, hangs and throws into the mayor's window). This video is shown on the news. What is the name of the man dressed up as Batman?
Brian Douglas. Brian Douglas is the dressed up Batman at the beginning of the movie. He is later revealed to be captured by the Joker. Brian mentions his full name during the video tape that the Joker makes. Andy Luther is the actor who plays Brian Douglas. Evan is the name of a very minor character in the movie and Freel is the last name of one of the judges. Kirk Stedden is another very minor character.

The Joker attaches a card to the body of a dead man in a Batman suit; there are three sets of DNA on the card, one of which belongs to Harvey Dent. What follows is a sort of montage of the death of the other two people. Who is killed because there is poison in their drink?
Commissioner Loeb. Commissioner Loeb is in both this movie and the previous movie, "Batman Begins". His name is mentioned multiple times throughout each movie. His name is specifically mentioned when Detective Ramirez is informing Gordon about whose DNA they found on the Joker card. Later in the movie, Gordon replaces Loeb as Commissioner.

The second person, whose DNA is on the Joker card, receives an envelope that is said to have directions to where they are supposed to drive. Instead inside the envelope there is a sheet of paper that simply says "Up". Suddenly the car explodes. Who is the person killed in the car?
Judge Surrillo. Judge Surrillo is the the judge who is takes the case involving the hundreds of mob people. Like Commissioner Loeb, her name is mentioned when Detective Ramirez is talking to Gordon about whose DNA they identified on the Joker card. She actually found the card in her files during the trial, because she touched the card her DNA is imprinted on the card.

Now let's talk about the second scar story! The Joker starts off by telling Rachel, that he had a wife. Which of the following does the Joker say his wife tells him?
He should smile more.. In the Joker's story he says that his wife tells him that he "worries" (not complains) too much. Again, you feel as though you are getting a glimpse into the past of the Joker. However, this story contradicts the previous story about the Joker's abusive father, so we can't be sure which story can be believed.

Continuing on in his story, he says that he gambles too much and got into too deep with the sharks. They carve her face, and they can't afford surgery. He just want's to see her smile again, so he puts a razor in his mouth. But now, she can't stand the sight of him. However, the Joker sees the funny side, what is the funny side that he sees?
Now he's always smiling. A different story, yet still shows how the Joker could have been and showing his down fall into darkness. Sadly, we do not know if this story is correct either, but shows his amazing story telling abilities.

After being caught, the Joker is interrogated for a minute by Commissioner Gordon. Once Gordon leaves, the lights turn on and you see that Batman is standing behind the Joker. Then he slams the Joker's head into the table. Now, according to the Joker, "Never start with the head the victim gets all ______, he can't feel your nex..." His sentence is cut off because Batman crushes his hand.
fuzzy. The interrogation scene...what can I say? Hmm, AMAZING!

Who is the Joker referring to when he says this? "Don't talk like one of them you're not, even if you'd like to be. To them you're just a freak, like me. They need you right now, but when they don't they'll cast you out, like a leper. See their morals, their code, its a bad joke. And its dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be."
The cops. Personally this is one of my favorite monologues in the movie. Especially when the Joker says "They're only as good as the world allows them to be." It points out a sad truth, in a very calm and distinguished way.

During, the rest of the interrogation between Batman and the Joker, Batman is quite hostile to the Joker. Especially when Batman learns that the Joker kidnapped Rachel as well. The Joker tells Batman that he is going to tell him where they both are, so that he'll have to choose who lives. He gives him the address of each of them. However, he switches the addresses because he knows Batman will choose to save Rachel, but the Joker needs Harvey alive. So, what is the address that the Joker says Harvey is at but really it is Rachel who is there?
250 52nd St.. Yes I know, nit picky and annoying cause all the addresses are similar, but I felt I needed one in here. Plus, I couldn't fully make out the other address, so I couldn't use it in this question.

While Batman and Gordon are both trying to save Harvey and Rachel, there is a man standing guard over the Joker in the interrogation room. The Joker starts saying he wants his phone call, then begins getting inside the guard's head. He first asks how many of the guards friends has he killed. How many is it?
Six. The Joker is on top of everything! Planning out how to sabotage anyones plans against his own, and getting underneath anyones skin. Which is shown through: Gordon, Dent, Bruce, and this guard.

When the Joker delivers Lau and the money to the mobsters, he is asked what will he do with his share. He answers by saying he enjoys...
Dynamite, Gunpowder, Gasoline. Now you can assume that the Joker likes knives, because he does talk about why he uses a knife so he can savor all the little emotions when he kills someone. But in the scene where he delivers the money, he only says Dynamite, Gunpowder, and Gasoline. Because they're all cheap.

What is the color of the wig that the Joker is wearing in the hospital?
Orange. The Joker dressing up in a nurses outfit was ridiculous and funny. And the part where he walks out of the supposed to be exploding building, turns around and is thinking "That's it?"

When the Joker is talking to Harvey in the hospital, he first tells Harvey why he isn't responsible for Rachel's death. Then he starts talking about how people never panic when things go according to plan, even if the plan is horrifying. He complains that when he says he's going to kill a mayor everyone loses their minds. And because of that he want's Harvey to introduce what?
anarchy. Two-Face (Harvey) was very well done, I had high hopes for his face and those hopes were exceeded...much like the rest of the movie. But again this shows how the Joker can just truly get under a person's skin and turn them against their own better judgement.

Who is the news anchorman that the Joker kidnaps to deliver his message to the people that if they are still in the city by nightfall they will be part of his game?
Mike Engel. Anthony Garcia is the name of the mayor of the city. The other two names are crosses of other characters first and last names.

Once Batman beats the Joker, then saves him from his fall. The Joker tells him of his "Ace in the hole," which is Harvey. He talks about how he brought Gotham's white knight and brought him down to their level. It wasn't hard according to him, because madness is like what?
gravity. Even when he is defeated, the Joker is calm and smooth in his conversation. And as always, his laugh is maniacal, evil, and twisted.
