    No one could bury Polynices.. Creon said that no one could bury Polynices because he had betrayed the city, but Antigone buried him so that he could pass into the afterlife.

    n. Ismene thought that they were not strong enough to defy the king, and that obedience was their duty.

Of the following characters, who was not dead at the beginning of the play?
    Eurydice. Eteocles and Polynices were brothers who killed each other over the throne. Oedipus was their father who had died after exiling himself. Eurydice was married to Creon at the beginning of the play.

Who does Creon initially blame for the burial of Polynices?
    the sentry. The sentry was the one who told Creon about the burial, and Creon told him that he would have to accept the blame if he couldn't find out who did it.

Why does Creon think that Polynices was buried?
    money. Creon thinks that whoever buried Polynices did it for money, because he cannot think of any other reason that someone would do it. He becomes very angry when his advisors sugggest that the gods were the cause of this.

What was the original punishment for the person who was found to have buried Polynices?
    death by stoning. The punishment was originally death by stoning, but so many people were angry because they didn't want this to happen to Antigone that Creon changed it to being locked in a cave with enough food for a couple of days so that the gods could decide whether to rescue her.

What happened to Antigone in the cave?
    She committed suicide.. Antigone hanged herself by her dress the same way that her mother had committed suicide.

Who does Haemon attempt to kill shortly after finding Antigone dead?
    Creon. It was Creon's fault that Antigone was dead, so he lunges at his father with his sword, but misses. When his father successfully escaped, he stabbed himself.

What happened to Eurydice?
    She committed suicide.. Both of her sons were dead, and she couldn't take life anymore, so she killed herself.

Who persuaded Creon to rescue Antigone?
    a blind prophet. He was, however, too late because by the time he got to the cave, Antigone had already committed suicide.
