    Lagash. The common link: they were all Sumerian city-states, founded during the 4th millenium B.C.

Kheops - Kephren - ?
    Mikherinos. The pyramids of Kheops, Kephren and Mikherinos form the best known complex of pyramids found in Egypt.

Gades - Utica - Leptis - Oea - ?
    Carthage. These names belong to Phoenecian colonies. Some of them still exist today as modern cities, for example Gades is the Spanish city of Cadiz. The other answers were the names of three Greek colonies.

Lao Zi - Mencius - ?
    Confucius. They were three of the greatest Chinese thinkers whose ideas had a great influence on Chinese culture and religion. Confucius and Lao Zi lived in the 6th century B.C while Mencius (Meng Zi) lived in the 4th century B.C.

Megara - Delphi - Athens - ?
    Thebes. These were the major city-states in Ancient Greece, situated on the Greek mainland (the other three cities being situated in the Peloponnes Peninsula).

    Thermopylae. These are the most important battles in the Greek-Persian Wars. Marathon (490 B.C), Thermopylae (480 B.C), Salamis (480 B.C), Plataea (479 B.C).

    Seleucos. They were the generals of Alexander the Great, who divided his empire after his death in 323 B.C.

Caesar - Pompey - ?
    Crassus. These three powerful men made up the first triumvirate in 59 B.C.

Numidia - Africa - Cyrenaica - Egypt - ?
    Mauretania. The missing link was the most western Roman colony in the African continent. The other answers referred to three Roman colonies in Europe.

Augustus - Tiberius - Caligula - Claudius - ?
    Nero. The well known Roman Emperor, Nero, was the missing link from the most important emperors of the Iulia-Claudia dynasty.
