Fun Trivia: E : Everybody Loves Raymond

Special Sub-Topic: "Baggage"

What is Raymond doing when Robert comes over?

Eating cheese. Raymond is shoveling cheese of all kinds into his mouth when Robert comes in. He says that he helped a man get a job at the paper and the man sent him a cheese sampler as a 'thank you'. When Robert asks if he's been doing this all day, Raymond says that he can't stop.

Raymond and Debra went to Connecticut with the suitcase. How long do they leave it on the landing when they get home before it becomes a point of contention?
Two weeks. Raymond and Debra took the suitcase with them when they went to Connecticut for the weekend. They were too tired to care when they got home, so they woke up Marie and Frank, sent them home, and left the suitcase on the landing. Raymond tells the story to Robert, mentioning that two weeks go by before he notices that something is up. By the end of the episode, however, more than four weeks have passed.

How does Raymond know that Debra touched the suitcase, but didn't move it?
She wears a shirt that she'd taken on the trip. While telling Robert what happened, Raymond says that he notices Debra wearing a sweater from the trip. In the flashback, Debra walks by in an orange and red diamond pattern sweater. Raymond says that he took his clothes out and wore them near her. In the flashback, he looks disheveled and his clothes are a mess. Debra doesn't even bat an eye.

Why won't Raymond move the suitcase?
He can outlast Debra. Raymond thinks that Debra is leaving the suitcase on the landing on purpose. He tells Robert that he can outlast her. When he asks Robert what he thinks, Robert gives him a strange look.

Who talks Raymond out of moving the suitcase to pack for his road trip?
Frank. Raymond needs the suitcase in order to go on a road trip for a couple days. When he goes to move it, reluctantly, Frank stops him. He says that Raymond shouldn't move it and that Debra should. For some reason, Raymond listens to his father.

What does Frank say that Debra gets mad at him for?
"That's how it's supposed to be". Frank, like everyone else, dislikes Debra's cooking. He would not ask her to make something for him. While it is possible that Marie might move it when she's at the house, she hasn't yet and Frank doesn't suggest it. Frank never tells Debra that it's her job to put things away. Debra says that if she doesn't do something, it doesn't get done. Frank tells her not to get mad and then says, "That's how it's supposed to be". Of course, Debra gets mad.

Why does Debra think that Raymond should move the suitcase?
The man should carry stuff. Debra says, "Isn't that the MAN'S job? It's the MANLY thing to do? Isn't THAT how it's supposed to be?" Frank says that Debra gave more thought to her argument then he did. Frank leaves when Raymond comes downstairs, knowing that a fight is brewing.

What does Raymond try to use as luggage instead of a suitcase?
A plastic bag. When Raymond comes downstairs to finish packing, he is carrying a plastic bag with his clothes in it. Upon seeing it, Frank knows a fight is coming and gets up and leaves the house. Raymond goes into the kitchen and puts a can of soda in the bag as well. Debra asks what he's doing and he says he's packing. After a fight, Debra rips open the bag and his clothes spill to the floor. As she leaves, Raymond says that he has "a full supply of luggage, thanks to the good people at Wallbomb's". Raymond leaves with his clothes in a bag.

What does Raymond put in the suitcase before he leaves for the airport?
Really stinky cheese. Before leaving, Raymond grabs cheese out of the refrigerator. He runs to the suitcase and puts it in a side pocket before zipping up the bag. He grins and leaves, calling goodbye to the still angry Debra.

What does Marie think is the source of the "aroma" in Raymond and Debra's house?
Debra's cooking. When Marie enters the house while Raymond is out, she asks if Debra is cooking something. She then says that she smells an aroma. Debra agrees that she has been smelling it for a while and they go on the search. Marie sniffs Debra before she goes off after the smell. Their noses lead them to the suitcase with the bad cheese. Debra removes the cheese and they both grimace and groan.

How many full days does Marie say the suitcase has been sitting on the stairs, when she discusses the suitcase fight with Debra?
Twenty-eight. Once the cheese is discovered, Marie says, "Debra, you can't keep cheese in a suitcase!" Debra argues that she didn't out it in there and goes to throw the cheese into the outside trash. Marie runs to the door and swings it open, then swings it back and forth to get in some fresh air. Marie mentions the suitcase problem and brings Debra across the street to show her something. She says the suitcase has been sitting there for "twenty-eight and a half days".

Who nailed the fork and spoon to the wall?
Marie and Frank. When Marie brings Debra to her house, she tells the history of the big fork and spoon. The big fork and big spoon were a wedding present that they really didn't want. Marie wanted Frank to return them because his aunt was the one who gave it to them. Frank thought that Marie should return them because they are technically silverware, and thus are women's territory. The attaching of the big fork and spoon to the wall was done by Marie and Frank as part of their fight.

What was the "shot heard round the world"?
Marie and Frank's first fight as a married couple. Marie says that the big fork and spoon were the cause of the first fight she and Frank had as a married couple. Debra calls it the shot heard around the world. Marie ended up leaving Frank, saying that he should be the "only ugly thing left in this house" when she got back. When she got back, however, Frank had nailed the big spoon to the wall. In retaliation, Marie put the big fork on the wall, higher than the spoon.

On their way upstairs at the end of the episode, what do Raymond and Debra fight over?
The suitcase. Debra asks Raymond to get it, but Raymond thinks Debra will move it because he came from Chicago just because of the suitcase. Debra says she's going to move it. Raymond tries to stop her and starts pulling her up the stairs, while she is still latched onto the suitcase. Robert comes in. When Raymond asks why he is there, Robert says, "I was going to ask if I could borrow that, but I don't think the airline will let me carry on all three of you."

What does Frank say about the big fork and spoon?
"When did we get those?". At the end of the episode, Marie comes into the kitchen to find Frank eating a sandwich. She tells him that she's going to be the bigger person and take down the big fork and spoon. With Frank watching, Marie removes the items. However, there are light marks on the wallpaper in the shape of the big fork and spoon. Unable to remove the marks, Marie puts the big fork and spoon back. She tells Frank that it is his fault and leaves. Frank then asks, "When did we get those?" Though they were a big deal to Marie, it seems that Frank forgot all about it.
