Fun Trivia: M : Music Word Play

Special Sub-Topic: Bandagrams

Unusual pussycat watches *moon jets*.

Tom Jones. "It's Not Unusual" appeared on "Along Came Jones" in 1965. "What's New, Pussycat" was the title track to the 1965 movie, written by Woody Allen. It's a seriously wacky film, starring Peter Sellers, Peter O'Toole and Capucine.

Like a *bony bald* woman?
Bob Dylan. "Just Like a Woman" from "Blonde on Blonde" (1966). Funnily enough, "Bony Bald Woman" was never considered as a title for this song!

Did she check Martin? No, I saw *Anna frisk rat*.
Frank Sinatra. Martin, as in Dean, or as in swallow (house martin). But also marten as in small weasel-like animal. Then a very witty reference to the Rat Pack, of which both Martin and Sinatra were members. Oh, how does she fit so much humour into such a small space?

He's either a prankster or very naughty boy. Freedom, if legal team *can calm his joke*.
Michael Jackson. Of course I'm not suggesting for a second that child molestation is a joking matter. But whatever juries may decide, and whatever his musical talents, Wacko Jacko is an odd man.

Takes a big hammer to shake a *big pearl tree*.
Peter Gabriel. Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer", from the album "So" (1986), and "Shaking the Tree", released as a single in 1989. Both songs were also on the "Secret World Live" release in 1994. I like to think the big pearl tree grew from planted tears, watered by red rain...ooh, did I type that out loud?

Off the wall concept album: idiosyncratic hit or *dinky flop*?
Pink Floyd. The number of 'concept albums' they released could almost classify Pink Floyd as a 'concept band'. "The Wall" (1979) is probably their best known - it was a fabulous day when we finally got a High School teacher who would show us the movie. He didn't even mind when we sang along...

*Star is tired* - installed too many microwave ovens.
Dire Straits. "We gotta install microwave ovens Custom kitchen deliveries We gotta move these refrigerators We gotta move these colour TVs" "Money for Nothing", from "Brothers in Arms" (1985). You think this reference is laboured, you should see what I came up with using "Romeo and Juliet"...

For a seven day weekend, lucky *I sell love cots*.
Elvis Costello. "Seven Day Weekend" is from "Blood & Chocolate", Elvis Costello's 1986 album with The Attractions.

Moved to higher ground before he *went over side*.
Stevie Wonder. "Higher Ground" was first released on "Innervisions" in 1973. You youngsters might know the song better from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers' version of 1989.

Get on the bus David, Stephen, Graham...is the *ugly one in*?
Neil Young. Before you send the note, no, I'm not saying Neil Young is ugly (but he's lucky he can sing!) Not that (David) Crosby, (Stephen) Sills and (Graham) Nash are oil paintings either...mainly this is just a cheap gag and a small nod to my FT friend and 'mentor' Uglybird...aw, ain't I sweet?
