Fun Trivia: A : Anthony, Piers

Special Sub-Topic: Bearing An Hourglass

What is the main character's name, when he is human?

Norton. Norton is a wanderer who enjoys exploring and cares about the environment.

A ghost comes to see the main character to ask him to 'associate' with his living wife. What is the ghost's name?
Gawain & gawain. In life, Gawain was a dragon slayer and was very wealthy. He needs Norton to get his wife pregnant so that he has an heir.

The main character meets and falls in love with the ghost's wife. What is her name?
Orlene. Orlene has the magical ability to see a glow when two things or people are right for one another.

The death of their son prompted the ghost's wife to commit suicide. Devastated, the main character resumes his travels; the ghost appears again and offers him the opportunity to become an Incarnation. What is the name of the Incarnation?
Chronos. Chronos is distinct from other Incarnations as he lives backwards, though for short lengths of time he can move forwards to interact with others.

The main character's love gave him a magical ring that helps him a great deal. What does he name this ring?
Sning & sning. Sning communicates by squeezes- one for yes, two for no, three for unsure, and larger numbers for numerical questions. Sning isn't too good at maths, though.

Satan attempts to distract the main character by adventures in an illusory reality. In the first of these adventures he meets a spaceman- what was his name?
Bat Dursten. Dursten is a chauvenistic male, but he shows compassion when he adopts an orphaned BEM (Bug Eyed Monster), which later turns out to be a Bemme (a female).

In the second adventure the main character enters a typical fantasy setting, complete with magic sword, a damsel in distress called Excelsia, and an evil sorceress. Excelsia wants to tame an Alicorn as her steed, but she needs to say the correct word for it to accept her. What is the word?
Love & love. The evil sorceress had captured the Alicorn (a flying unicorn) and knew the word, but because she was evil she couldn't say it.

The Incarnation of Time 'associates' intimately with one of the aspects of Fate- which one?
Clotho & clotho. Clotho is taken from Greek mythology; she is the spinner of the threads of life. She is also the maiden aspect of the three, and my namesake :)

In his final illusory adventure, the Incarnation needs to take the advice of one of the characters. Which character does he choose?
Bemme. The Bemme turns out to be a true alien and informs Norton about the illusion he is a part of.

Satan had diverted the Incarnation of Time so that he could cause Luna to lose her political seat in the past. Luna gained it back, thanks to Time's intervention, but what did he do?
Showed the people their futures. Satan dislikes the chaos this causes, but before conceding he takes Chronos to Hell and confronts him. Norton turns the sand of his hourglass brown, which reverses time for Satan alone. Satan then concedes and allows a recount of the votes.

So that covers the basics of the story- now for some tricky questions! What colour does the Incarnation will the hourglass's sand to turn in order to travel backwards in normal time?
Blue. In this way Norton travels back to the time of the dinosaurs.

To travel forwards in normal time, the sand turns what colour?
Red. Though Chronos can travel as far into the future as he wishes, he cannot interact at any time outside of his own lifespan.

What colour should the sand be for the Incarnation to interact in normal time?
Green. Chronos can, however, relate to others normally without the hourglass, within his mansion in Purgatory. Here anyone who enters the mansion is travelling backwards, which is Chronos's normal direction.

What does turning the sand of the hourglass brown do?
Reverses time only for Satan. This is the way in which Chronos finally enables Satan to concede defeat.

In a conversation with Mars, he lists the five intrinsic forces of reality. What does he say is the strongest of these forces?
Nuclear strong. This is the strongest, followed by electromagnetic, then nuclear weak, gravity, and lastly, magic. This is probably the most confusing part of the book!
