    Egypt. Claude was born in Egypt as his father worked there on the Suez Canal. They moved to France in 1956. Another famous singer in France was Dalida, like Claude she was born in Egypt of Italian parents.

When was Claude born?
    1st February 1939. Claude was quite a big baby, in fact his mother was told she might be expecting twins.

Claude played several musical instruments, what was his favourite?
    Drums. Claude loved playing the drums, but his father wanted him to learn a proper instrument, Claude was promised a dog if he learned the violin, as he wanted a dog very much he learned it very quickly, and very good he was too.

Where was Claude's only concert in the United Kingdom held?
    Royal Albert Hall England. The concert was on January 16th 1978 only two months before he died. More than 6,000 people attended the concert, and it was the first time a French singer had filled the Albert Hall. Also performing with him were his dancers "The Clodettes" they were very famous, one of the ex-Clodettes called Prisca, has a dance school and teaches children Claude's routines.

What is Claude's full name?
    Claude Marie Antoine Francois. Claude's father wanted him to be called Antoine, as all the male members of his family had names beginning with the letter A, but his mother Chouffa insisted on Claude.

Claude presented the programme "Avec Le Coeur", who did he present it with?
    Michel Drucker. The famous French television presenter Michel Drucker was a great friend of Claude's. Claude was to have recorded the show "Rendezvous de Dimanche" a Christmas special with Michel, but sadly this never happened as Claude died that day, on March 11th 1978.

Did Claude Francois ever marry?
    Yes. Claude married an English woman called Janet Woollacott, she was a dancer. She left Claude for another famous French singing star called Gilbert Becaud.

What position did "Tears on the Telephone" reach in the U.K. Pop charts?
    35. This song was originally released in France, it was called "Le telephone pleure". It was a massive hit, and sold around 2 million records.

"Comme d'Habitude" was translated into English and became which famous song?
    My Way. By Gilles Thibault (1927-2000), Claude Francois (1939-1978), and Jacques Revaux (b. 1945), English lyrics by Paul Anka (b.1941), Published in 1967. Originally written in French as "Comme d'Habitude" ("As Usual"). The song first appeared on the 1969 Sinatra album, "My Way". This song has been recorded by hundreds of singers. These include Elvis Presley, the Sex Pistols, and of course Frank Sinatra. The original song 'Comme d'Habitude is still played a lot in France, and another famous French singer Michel Sardou includes it in his concerts.

What are the names of Claude's two sons?
    Claude and Mark. Claude had two sons Claude Junior and Marc, their mother is Isabelle. Claude Junior now runs Claude's record company "Fleche"
