    Traveling Shows. He started as a teenager in Traveling Shows and later performed in other venues of entertainment. Mr. Hayes is best known as the sidekick of Roy Rogers. He was in over 40 films with Roy. His first film with Roy Rogers was "Westward Ho" in 1939.

What screen name was used by Mr. Hayes most often in his movies with Roy Rogers?
    "Gabby" Whittaker. He played a longtime friend to Roy Rogers for many years. He never hesitated to voice his openion to Roy about the situation they might be in at the time.

His first major role was not with Roy Rogers though, it came earlier, it was with Hopalong Cassidy. What was his name in these films?
    Windy Haliday. "Gabby" Hayes was in more than 190 films and used many screen names, but this was his first well-known alias. He starred in 18 films with him.

    The Gabby Hayes Show. This show ran in the 1950s and Mr. Hayes introduced and moderated old "B" westerns that had been edited down to 30 minute shows.

    AFI. Mr. Hayes, along with just a few other cowboy stars, made AFI's "100 Greatest Screen Legends". George "Gabby" Hayes is one of my most favorite characters from the old westerns. Mr. Hayes died in 1969 and is buried at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills in California. Western fans miss him.
