What did 442 stand for from 1965 on?
    400, 4 barrel, dual exhaust. In 64', 442 stood for the 4 speed tranny, 4 barrel carb and dual exhaust. In 65',the 442 could be had with a 400 cubic inch V8 and automatic transmission. 442 now meant 400, 4 barrel, dual exhaust.

What was the last year the 442 was manufactured?
    1987. Olds made versions of the 442 until 1987. By now, mainly an appearance and handling package, the 87' 442 was still fairly quick for 1987. With a 190 horsepower, 307 V8, the 87' 442 could still run high 16 second quarter mile E.T.s.

What was the highest factory horsepower rating for the 442?
    380. In 1970, at the peak of the horsepower wars, Olds offered a 455 Rocket V8 advertised and underrated at 380hp. The 1968 Hurst Olds 455 was rated at 390hp. The High Output 455 Rocket actually made more along the lines of about 425 horsepower!

Forced Air Induction made its 442 debut in what year?
    1967. As part of the new W30 performance and handling option, Olds included a forced air induction system worth 10 more horsepower.

    1968. The first Hurst Olds, in 1968, was also the best. With a 390 horsepower 455 Rocket V8, the Hurst Olds was capable of mid to high 13's on stock tires!

    1986. Oldsmobile offered the Hurst Olds package in 1968, 1969, 1972, 1974, 1979, 1983 and last in 1984. 1968 to 1974 Hurst Olds came with a 455 Rocket. 1979 HOs came with a 350 Rocket or a 403. The 83, 84' came with the 307.

What engine did the 1970 Cutlass W31 get equipped with?
    350 Rocket. The 1970 W31 option came with a 325 horsepower 350 Rocket V8 to keep insurance and fuel prices down over the mighty 455. Capable of running the quarter mile in 13.9 seconds, this junior supercar could almost hang with it's big brother, the 442 W30!
