Special Sub-Topic: Dudditsese

"Ennie"

Henry. Henry Devlin is a psychiatrist. One of his patients, Barry Newman, dies because he is extremely overweight. Henry is suicidal throughout most of the book, but by the end this is no longer the case.

"Duddits"
Douglas. Douglas Cavell is Duddits' real name. His parents are Roberta and Alfie. Duddits has Down's syndrome. He eventually dies of leukemia.

"Eeyer-eh"
Beaver's dead. Beaver is killed by a Byrum at Hole in the Wall. He has the creature trapped in the toilet but he moves to get a toothpick.

"Ooo or"
Do more. Duddits says this when he wants Beaver to sing him the lullaby again. This is just after the boys have rescued Duddits from Richie Grenadeau.

"We gah-sum urk oo-do-now"
We got some work to do now. Duddits picked up this catchphrase from the cartoon "Scooby Doo". He has a picture of that cartoon on his lunchbox.

"Ills ake ee etter"
Pills make me better. Duddits says this when he is in the car with Henry and Owen. At this point he is on the verge of death because his leukemia has gotten so bad.

"Umma oo ay ere"
Momma you stay here. Duddits says this to his mum when Henry and Owen come to collect him for his final journey. He realises that his mother would be in danger if she went with them.

"Ayfe"
Safe. Again, this is what Duddits says to his mother just before his final journey. He is telling her to stay behind so she will be safe.

Duddits says: "Eee? Ight ack ere."
False. Beaver says this when he is showing Jonesy that he has some teeth missing. He is speaking funny because he has his mouth open.

"Fit neek"
Fix sneaker. Duddits says this when he is having trouble putting his shoe back on following the incident with Richie Grenadeau.
