Special Sub-Topic: Famous Brothers

Who are the fastest brothers in the world, at least on the Formula 1 circuit?

Schumacher. Michael and Ralf Schumacher are German. Michael has won more Formula 1 races than any other driver, Ralf has also collected a few victories. Michael drives for Ferrari, Ralf for Williams.

Another pair of brothers in sports are soccer players on Manchester United and England. Both play in defense. They are:
Phil and Gary Neville. Roy Keane is a Man. U. midfielder, Robbie Keane plays for Leeds. They are Irish and not brothers. Nicky Butt is also a Man. U. midfielder. Brian Butt does not, to my knowledge, exist. Wes Brown and Rio Ferdinand are Man. U. defenders, but not brothers.

German writer and Nobel laureate Thomas Mann had a brother who was also a writer, and not much less celebrated than himself. What was his name?
Heinrich Mann. Klaus Mann, author of "Mephisto," was Thomas Mann's son. Felix Krull is a character of a Thomas Mann novel.

The Allman Brothers made it into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. What were the brothers' first names?
Gregg and Duane. The brothers were two out of a total 7 band members of The Allman Brothers. Earlier they had several other bands, one of which was called Allman Joys. Duane died in a motorcycle accident in 1971.

Film director Andrej Konchalovsky ("Runaway Train," "Tango & Cash") has a brother who is also a film maker as well as an actor. They belong to a family of cultural big guns in Russia; in fact, it has at times been thought that this brother might run for president. Who is he?
Nikita Mikhalkov. Two Nikita Mikhalkov movies are "Burnt by the Sun" (in which he plays the lead role himself) and "Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano." Father of Andrei and Nikita, Sergei Mikhalkov, was called Stalin's court poet and wrote the lyrics for the Soviet anthem. When Russia reinstated the Soviet hymn as a national anthem, Sergei Mikhalkov (at 87) also wrote the lyrics for the new version.

Actor Emilio Estevez has a scandal-ridden brother who is also an actor. His name is:
Sheen. Both Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen starred in Young Guns (1988). In recent years, Sheen has made headlines chiefly due to his abuse of drugs and women. Emilio's and Charlie's father is Martin Sheen.

The Wright brothers are credited with inventing the airplane. What were their first names?
Orville and Wilbur. During the first years of the 20th century, the Wright brothers of Dayton, Ohio developped what is considered the first effective airplane.

In the roaring twenties, Fred Astaire and W.C. Fields were two of many stage artists to benefit from the collaboration of two New York brothers of Russian descent. Who were they?
Gershwin & Gerswin & Gershvin. Together, George Gershwin (born Gershowitz) and his older brother Ira wrote a number of successful musicals during the 1920's. In the 30's George Gershwin turned his interest towards serious composition; the opera "Porgy and Bess" was finished in 1935, two years before he died from a brain tumor.

Two brothers were co-founders of the C.B.C. Sales Film Corporation in 1920 and four years later changed its name into Columbia Pictures. One of them, Harry, was Columbia's president until his death in 1958. Their family name was:
Cohn. Harry and Jack Cohn founded C.B.C. together with Joe Brandt. Frank Capra directed a number of comedies for Columbia from the late 20's.

We end as we started, in the world of sports. Identify the soccer bros who became World Champions in 1954 when Germany beat Hungary 3-2 in the final. They had both scored in the semi-final thrashing of Austria (6-1).
Fritz and Otmar Walter. Helmut Rahn, Max Morlock and Werner Kohlmeyer were other players on the 1954 team; their brothers are mere invention, though. The only other brothers to have become world champions are Jack and Bobby Charlton (England, 1966). Immensely popular Fritz Walter, captain of the 1954 squad that staged the "Miracle of Bern" (the Hungarian were heavy favourites), died in June 2002.
