Rebecca appears in the Bible. To whom was she married?

    Isaac. Rebecca (or Rebekah) was the wife of Isaac and the mother of Jacob and Esau. A servant of Abraham had met her by a well, and asked for her to go with him to marry Abraham's son, Isaac. She was barren, but once Isaac had asked the Lord to intervene, she had the twins, Jacob and Esau. They had 'struggled together within her' (King James, Genesis 25 v 22) and the Lord had said that this was a sign of the struggle the two would have as they grew. They were to become the fathers of two nations, Israel and Edom.

A very well-known novel, that was later made into a film, bears the title 'Rebecca'. Who was the author of this book?
    Daphne du Maurier. Daphne du Maurier began to write 'Rebecca' in 1937, when she was in Egypt with her husband, who was in the Grenadier Guards. It is set in a famous ficticious house - Manderley - and Rebecca is the first wife of Maxim de Winter. He marries the narrator of the story, then the tale of Rebecca comes to light. The book was made into a movie, starring Laurence Olivier as Maxim and Joan Fontaine as the second Mrs. de Winter.

Rebecca De Mornay is an actress. Which of these films has she not appeared in?
    The Usual Suspects. Rebecca De Mornay starred in 'Never Talk to Strangers' with Antonio Banderas; she was in 'The Right Temptation' with Kiefer Sutherland; in 'Identity' she appeared with John Cusack. She was born Rebecca George on August 29th, 1962, in California, USA. The name De Mornay comes from her step-father, Richard.

Is there a Saint Rebecca?
    y. She was martyred in the third century, in Alexandria, Egypt. Her memorial day is 4th September.

Rebecca Rolfe was very famous, but under a different name. What was her original name?
    Pocahontas. In the early seventeenth century Pocahontas became friendly with, and trusted by, English settlers. She saved the life of John Smith, when her father, Chief Powhatan, had ordered him to be killed, and she warned the settlers that they were to be attacked by natives. When she was 18 she became a Christian and took the name Rebecca at her baptism. She married John Rolfe, a settler, and died in 1617, after travelling to England with him.

Rebekah Elmaloglou was in the long running Australian soap opera 'Home and Away' in the early 1990s. What was the name of the character she played?
    Sophie Simpson. Rebekah Elmaloglou was born on 23rd January, 1974. She starred in 'Home and Away' between 1990 and 1993 and in several episodes since then. She has also appeared in 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome'. She is the niece of Dame Judi Dench.

In the song 'The Coward of the County' we hear that 'There's someone for everyone and ______'s love was Becky.' What was the name of the 'Coward'?
    Tommy. 'His mama named him Tommy, but folks just called him yellow'. When the Gatlin boys assaulted Becky, though, Tommy proved that he was not a coward! The song was sung by Kenny Rogers.

Rebecca Rand Kirshner has written episodes for which popular television series?
    Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rebecca Rand Kirshner began writing as a child, and has written episodes of 'Buffy' including "Out of my Mind" and "Listening to Fear". She also wrote for the series 'Freaks and Geeks' (1999) and for 'Las Vegas' (2003).

Becky Sharp is the heroine of which novel?
    Vanity Fair. 'Vanity Fair' was written by William Thackery. Although she does everything to further her ambitions, readers find Becky Sharp attractive because of her energy and drive. William Thackery was born in 1811, in India. He was educated in England from an early age and not always happily or successfully (he left Cambridge University without a degree). He had 'Vanity Fair' serialized in 1847-1848 and published in 1848.

In Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' there is a girl called Becky. What is her surname?
    Thatcher. 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' is set in the 1840s, along the Mississippi in Missouri. It tells of the adventures of a young boy, Tom Sawyer, and his friends, the most famous of which is Huck Finn. Becky Thatcher is another of his friends. She is the daughter of Judge Thatcher and is very prim and proper. She quickly grabs Tom's attention and wins his affection.
