    Yellowstone. Yellowstone National Park was created by the United States Congress on March 1, 1872, for the preservation of its natural wonders and for the enjoyment of America's citizens. Yellowstone is famous for its 10,000 natural hot springs and for Old Faithful.

    Amboseli. Located in Southern Kenya, and bordering on Tanzania, Amboseli National Park was originally part of the Southern Maasai Reserve. In 1948, the Southern Maasai Reserve was renamed to Amboseli National Reserve, and it was not until 1977 that Amboseli was awarded National Park status. With this status, animals living in the reserve are protected.

    Lake Naivasha. Lake Naivasha was discovered in 1884 by Joseph Thomson, a Westerner. Naivasha is Kenya's only freshwater lake, which is home to thousands of hippos.

    Uluru. Uluru National Park is famous for Ayers Rock and the Olgas. It is owned by the Aboriginals and leased to the Australian government.

    Finke Gorge. Finke Gorge National Park is 96 miles southwest of Alice Springs and Palm Valley, which is lined with pools and ancient palms.

    Yosemite. Located in Sierra, Nevada, Yosemite National Park contains Giant Sequoias, beautiful waterfalls, animals, and meadows. It was given National Park status on October 1, 1890.

    Dartmoor. In 1951, the wilderness surrounding the Dart river was designated a national park and named Dartmoor. Dartmoor is perhaps most famous for the Dartmoor ponies and for Princetown prison. The prison was constructed in 1806, to house American and French prisoners of war. It became a criminal prison in 1850.

    Tunnel Creek. Tunnel Creek National Park is located in Western Australia, and is east of Derby. Between 1894 and 1897, Tunnel Creek was inhabited by an Aboriginal outlaw, who made Tunnel Creek his hideout.

    Zion. Zion National Park is located in Utah, and is that state's most frequently used park. It was given National Park status in 1919.

    Prince Albert. Prince Albert National Park was founded on March 24, 1927, by the order-in-council. Over a year later, on August 10, 1928, Prince Albert was officially opened to the public.
