    Mexican. Frida, of course, is Mexican. Her home, Casa de Azul, stands as a museum in Mexico.

What tragic event took place in her early life causing Frida disablity and suffering for the rest of her years?
    A trolley accident. When Frida was involved in this accident, doctors believed she would not live, let alone walk again. Although she did, the accident would plague her for the rest of her life.

Frida fell in love and married one of Mexico's most famous artists; people dubbed their relationship that of an elephant and a dove. Who is this man?
    Diego Rivera. Although Rivera had been married before Frida, and was almost twice her age, the two fell in love and had a very controversial relationship which included infidelity, divorce and remarriage to each other.

Onto her art...of all Frida's works, what theme is she most famous for?
    Self portraits. Frida specialized in self portraits, stating that she painted them because she knew herself best.

Name the only collage Frida ever did.
    My Dress Hangs There. "My Dress Hangs There" was a work Frida started while in New York with Rivera during one of his commissions- she stated that although she was in New York, only her dress hangs there while her heart stays in Mexico.

What situation did Frida create "Henry Ford's Hospital" from?
    A miscarriage. "Henry Ford's Hospital" is full of iconography and symbolism regarding how Frida felt after the miscarriage of her child. However, Frida experienced several miscarriages during her life- she was never able to give birth to a child due to the trolly accident during her young adulthood.

According to Frida, what is her interpretation of "Two Fridas" ?
    The side of Frida her husband loves and the side of Frida her husband does not love- they are connected.. Frida was conflicted with the side of her that Rivera loved, which embraced Mexican traditions of dress and ritual, and the side where Frida expressed being rebellious, that drank and had affairs with others. She created this work to show that she is both, connected physically - but the part that Rivera loved bleeds.

What art movement was Frida often identified with by its members?
    Surrealism. Frida was embraced by Andre Breton and Marcel Duchamp- they considered her work to be highly Surrealist, but Frida never classified herself with any group.

What famous female artist did Frida have an affair with?
    Georgia O'Keeffe. It was no secret that Frida was bi-sexual. She kept lesbian friends and lovers just as often as she kept male friends and lovers. She also had an affair with the wife of one of the surrealists.

What are the famous words that Frida wrote in her diary right before she died? (English translation)
    I hope the exit is joyful and I hope never to return.. Rivera stated that Frida's paintings are "agonizing poetry on canvas" -Frida felt that her life was full of pain and sadness, and most of all she hated the pain her body caused her. She wanted to be burned not buried, and she wanted never to return.
