Fun Trivia: A : Alien

Special Sub-Topic: From the Egg to the Queen, Part 1

Which of the following is NOT an important duty of an adult Alien drone in the Alien hive?

Training humans, etc. to be slaves. Some of the functions performed by adult Aliens include taking care of the hive, providing a formidable defense, and gathering food. Most importantly, Aliens must take care of the Queen and the eggs in order for the hive to survive. There have never been slaves consisting of others species in the hive.

A facehugger is the term used to describe the larva stage of the Alien life cycle which resides in the egg until embryo implantation into a host. Does the facehugger generally have the ability to implant numerous embryos in multiple hosts before dying?
    n. The facehugger can only implant one embryo when it is ejected from the egg. Once it implants this embryo into the chest of a host, the facehugger detaches from the host and dies. The general rule to remember: one facehugger for every host! There is an exception in "Alien 3", but this is not the rule.

How is a Queen most commonly born?
The same way an Alien drone is born. A Queen is mainly born the same way as the rest of the hive--a facehugger implants her embryo into a host and she bursts out of the host's chest. In "Alien 3", Ripley discovered that she was carrying a Queen inside her, and it was born just as Ripley killed herself, killing the Queen as well. The Queen was brought back to life when Ripley was cloned in "Alien Resurrection".

Which of these do the Aliens really not like and are even afraid of?
Fire. The Aliens have always been quite wary of fire as it is very effective at destroying them. Even the Queen was afraid of the fire from Ripley's flamethrower in "Aliens". However, they are most certainly not afraid of humans!

How many eggs can the Queen lay when she is in her egg-laying mode?
Thousands. When the Queen is at the stage of life for laying eggs, she usually ends up laying thousands of eggs. When Kane went into the derelict spaceship in "Alien", he saw "thousands of eggs". That's a lot of eggs! Those same eggs were still around in "Aliens" for the colonists to find.

One very good reason to be far away from an Alien when you kill it is because it has ____ for blood.
acid. It has been shown numerous times that the Aliens have extremely corrosive acid for blood. If this stuff hits you full-force, you're a goner! In "Aliens", Drake was killed when he was hit by Alien blood. Also, Hicks was burned in the face when he shot an Alien at close range in the same movie. Facehuggers also have the same blood, as demonstrated in "Alien" when Ash tried to cut the facehugger off of Kane's face.

A chestburster is a baby Alien that has just bursted out of its host's chest. What does the chestburster do to aid it in growing to full size?
Sheds its skin several times. As the chestburster grows to full adult size, it must shed its skin several times, just like a snake. Shedded Alien skin was found by Brett in "Alien" and by an inmate in "Alien 3".

How does the facehugger keep its host subdued as it implants the embryo?
It puts the host in a coma. The facehugger puts the host in a coma by supplying the necessary gas that the host needs to live. The facehugger then deposits a tube into the host and uses this tube to place the embryo into the chest of the host. It wraps its tail about the host's neck in order to keep from being removed. None of this can be done if the host is dead, although the host is doomed to die shortly afterwards.

Which of these is a primary weapon used by the adult Alien?
A second mouth that punctures. The adult Alien has a second mouth/tongue that can shoot out rapidly and puncture anything nearby. The Queen has this weapon as well. Aliens have used this to kill many people, and even used it to kill one of their own members in "Alien Resurrection". This was done so that the unfortunate Alien's blood could melt a hole in the floor and enable escape for the rest.

The Queen is generally more intelligent than the other Alien drones.
    t. Because the Queen controls the hive and can communicate with the other Alien drones, she seems to be smarter than the other Aliens. She is also a more formidable opponent than a regular Alien as she has the capacity to plan a strategy and think things through during a fight.

What causes the egg to open?
External movement outside of the egg. When there is movement near the egg, a sensory device detects the movement and the egg opens up at the top. Inside is the facehugger, and it shoots out rapidly toward the source of movement. Aliens have even cocooned hosts and placed eggs in front of them, so that when they regained conciousness, this whole process started.

Generally, it takes a chestburster at least several days to grow into its full adult Alien size.
    f. It usually only takes a chestburster a few hours to grow to its adult size. In "Alien" and "Alien 3", the Aliens that were born grew very quickly.

Can Aliens swim?
    y. In "Alien Resurrection", the Aliens apparently had no difficulty swimming through the flooded chamber after Ripley and her pals. In fact, they swam through the water very well. It sweems the only thing they can't do is sprout wings and fly.

What earth animal do the facehuggers resemble the most?
Spider. Like spiders, facehuggers have eight very long "legs" which they use to wrap around the head of the host. Their movement is also very similar to the way spiders and other arachnids move. The main differences are that facehuggers have a different sort of skin than spiders and that they have tails. Facehuggers are also much more deadly than most spiders!

When the eggs in the hive are protected, such as those in "Alien", how long can they last?
Centuries. In "Alien", the eggs were protected by a blue gas that hovered above the eggs and voiced a signal when it was tampered with. These eggs had obviously been there for a very long time, and were the same ones that were discovered by the colonists in "Aliens".

What external characteristic do the adult Aliens typically exhibit?
They salivate profusely. Aliens salivate profusely, or, to put it indelicately, they slobber all over the place! This has been shown time and time again in every single "Alien" movie; you could say it's their trademark. Sometimes the drool is really goopy and slimy, and other times it runs like water. Either way, it's pretty disgusting!

In appearance, the Queen is a bit different from the other Alien drones. Which is NOT true about how she looks different?
She has fewer limbs (arms and legs). The Queen does look different from the other Aliens; however, she has multiple limbs, not fewer. She stands much taller and has a longer scorpion-like tail. Her head is much larger and is shaped to look more like a crown, which is fitting.

Can an Alien "inherit" certain attributes from its host?
    y. Sometimes Aliens obtain features from their host, including how the Alien moves or thinks. Throughout the "Alien" movies, most of the hosts were human, but in "Alien 3", the host for the main Alien was a dog. This Alien therefore moved and acted similar to a dog as compared to other Aliens.

What is the one action that the queen will undertake in the most dire of circumstances?
Separate herself from the egg sac. The Queen's egg sac is very large and is part of her abdomen. Since laying eggs is probably the Queen's most important function, it would have to be a desperate thing for her to separate from the egg sac as it can't be reattached. In "Aliens", the Queen did this as Ripley destroyed the hive and fired grenades into the egg sac.

Alien and human DNA have been combined to create an entirely new Alien species.
    t. Ripley's human DNA was combined with the Queen's Alien DNA in "Alien Resurrection". This action resulted in a new Alien being which was shaped like an Alien but had human skin, eyes, teeth, and tongue. It was also more deadly than its predecessors as it killed the queen singlehandedly. I hope you enjoyed this quiz and that you learned something more about these fearsome creatures!
