Special Sub-Topic: How Well Do You Know "The Great Hunt"?

Who is Lord Ingtar's second in command during the hunt for the Horn of Valere?

Rand. Throughout the hunt, Ingtar typically uses Uno to carry out his commands and organize the Shienarans. However, he lets Rand know that Lord Agelmar, at Moiraine's advice, made him second in command, should Ingtar fall in battle. Rand at first is stubbornly unaccepting of this role, since he still sees himself as a shepherd, but throughout "The Great Hunt", he slowly grows into his new role.

What is the human tongue translation for the name the wolves have given to Rand?
Shadowkiller. While there is never a direct translation for the images and emotions behind the wolves' references to people, Perrin says that the images the wolves show for Rand translate to something like "Shadowkiller". The wolves are not afraid of Rand, but they hold him in awe.

Artur Hawkwing refuses to call Rand by his name, instead insisting on naming him "Lews Therin".
False. While, initially, both Hawkwing and Birgitte call Rand "Lews Therin", when Rand insists that his name is Rand al'Thor, and after hearing Hurin call him "Lord Rand", Hawkwing acquiesces and also addresses him as "Lord Rand".

Who said: "You battled the Dark One. I saw you, Lord Dragon. I saw. I am your man, to the death."?
Masema. These words were astonishing, coming from Masema. He had openly despised Rand because he looked like an Aielman for the entire novel up until this point. He goes on to become one of Rand's most fanatical followers.

How do Nynaeve, Min, and Elayne infiltrate the building where Egwene is held as a damane?
Nynaeve disguises herself as a sul'dam and Elayne and Min disguise themselves as her servants.. Their original plan was for either Nynaeve or Elayne to disguise herself as a sul'dam or a damane, based on who fit the captured sul'dam's dress the best. However, upon realizing how the collars worked and how terrible it was to be able to torture another human being with the a'dam, Nynaeve instead leashes the sul'dam, refusing to put the collar on Elayne.

What does Ingtar confess to Rand before going to die so that they may escape?
He is a Darkfriend. Ingtar admits that he is a Darkfriend, and that he was told to let the man in to Shienar that eventually shot the arrow at either the Amyrlin or Rand. He hopes that by making his last stand, in allowing Rand, Mat, Perrin, and Hurin to escape with the Horn, that he might atone for his sins. He wonders whether he can walk in the Light with this one final act. Rand, while initially in shock, saying that Ingtar being a Darkfriend was like Egwene admitting she'd murdered children, believes that he can come back to the Light.

Why must Rand and his friends use the Portal Stones instead of the Ways to reach Toman Head?
Machin Shin guards the entrance to the Ways.. For some reason, Fain appears to have ordered Machin Shin to guard the Ways so that Rand cannot follow him. They try two different Waygates before deciding to use a Portal Stone. However, Rand still does not have mastery over saidin, and through his lack of control, he ends up making all in the group experience various ways their lives could have gone, had they made different choices. Eventually, they end up in Toman Head, having lost four months of time.

Why would Loial rather avoid visiting any steddings?
He is afraid his mother will find him a wife and force him to settle down and marry.. Among Ogier, it is common for mothers to choose a wife for their sons, and arrange the marriage with the chosen wife's mother. Loial is afraid that if he is forced to marry, his wife will never let him go off on his own and leave the stedding again. He wants to continue travelling with Rand, Mat, and Perrin instead.

At the end of "The Great Hunt", Rand finally admits to himself that he is the Dragon Reborn.
    f. It's hinted that Rand subconsciously realizes who he is, and of course the readers know without a doubt that he is the Dragon Reborn. However, he does not admit it to himself in this book. He is stubborn, and only grudgingly admits to himself that Tam al'Thor is not his biological father. That's as far as he goes in the second book in this series.

What special ability does Egwene's sul'dam discover she has?
Finding ore in the ground. We learn that Egwene is particularly strong in channeling the Earth element, which is unusual, since women tend to be stronger in Air and Water than in Earth and Fire. Because she is able to discover ore in the ground, she is considered highly valuable, and was scheduled to be presented before the Empress in Seanchan.
