Fun Trivia: A : American Idol: Season 6

Special Sub-Topic: Idol Gives Back

Like the vast majority of episodes of "American Idol," "Idol Gives Back" had a theme for the music the audience will hear. What was it?

Inspirational. Inspirational songs were the theme of "Idol Gives Back." This was quite fitting because these songs could have inspired people to vote and donate money to help impoverished people both in America and Africa.

Chris Richardson took the stage first. What song did he sing?
Change the World. Chris sang "Change the World," which was originally sung by Eric Clapton. The judges thought it was all right. Simon even said, "The competition starts properly tonight."

Which contestant sang Faith Hill's "There Will Come a Day"?
Melinda Doolittle. Melinda started off the song with a few bad notes, but soon got her act together and delivered an amazing vocal performance. The judges were thrilled by her performance. Paula even called Melinda "Magical."

Beatboxer Blake Lewis sang next. Which song did he tackle?
Imagine. Blake took on John Lennon's powerful "Imagine." Paula thought it was the "first real sensitive performance" from Blake, but Randy and Simon weren't as thrilled. Still, Blake received a gigantic round of applause from the audience.

LaKisha Jones took on "I Believe," which is the song of a former American Idol. Which one?
Fantasia. Fantasia's season three post-finale performance of "I Believe" was excellent, and is very difficult to beat. LaKisha really had her work cut out for her when choosing the song. The judges agreed that it was a bad choice of song for her because the original was so good. She also had some sour notes in the performance, as well.

Phil Stacey was next with a Garth Brooks song. Which one did he sing?
The Change. His performance of "The Change" resulted in a split verdict from the judges. Randy and Paula thought Phil did a good job showing off his skills with country music. Simon didn't think it was country enough.

Jordin Sparks wrapped up the night with which song?
You'll Never Walk Alone. "You'll Never Walk Alone" is from "Carousel," and Jordin did an amazing job performing the song. The audience gave her a standing ovation, and the judges praised her to the extremes. Randy even called it one of the best performances out of all six seasons.

Now, on to results night. Which of these groups did not perform on this night?
Jordin Sparks and Reuben Studdard. Jordin and Reuben sang together during the finale. The results show of "Idol Gives Back" had many amazing musical performances. Apart from the ones listed in the answer choices, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, and the top 6 finalists performed.

Which Bee Gee's song was lip-synched by a variety of celebrities?
Stayin' Alive. Many viewers will remember this video clip in which many celebrities, including Miss Piggy, Shaq, Dr. Phil, Goldie Hawn, Gwyneth Paltrow, Good Charlotte, Kevin Bacon, Keira Knightley, Lebron James, and Hugh Laurie (a.k.a. Dr. House) lip-synched "Stayin' Alive."

"Idol Gives Back" saw the end of the road for which of the following contestants?
Nobody. At the beginning of the show, Ryan Seacrest said that the results would be the most shocking ever. When it appeared that front-runner Jordin Sparks was about to go home, he announced that because this was a charity night, no one was going home. All votes from "Idol Gives Back" were rolled over into the next week, and two contestants were sent home.
