Lombardy. Lombardy has an area of 23,861 kilometers squared. Milan, the economic and fashion capital of Italy, is its capital city. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy.

This is a central region in Italy. Some of its noted cities are Rome, Frosinone and Viterbo. The Tiber is its most important river. What is the name of this Italian region?

Lazio. Lazio (also called Latium) has an area of 17,207 kilometers squared. Rome, the "eternal city", is the capital city and a world-famous tourist destination. In Lazio you can admire also the Tivoli gardens. It borders the Tyrrhenian sea to the west.

This southern region has cities which include Bari, Brindisi, Taranto, and Lecce. It borders the Adriatic Sea to the east. Which Italian region is this?

Apulia. Apulia has an area of 19,362 kilometers squared. The city of Bari is the capital city. Almost all its important cities are ports, making this region an influential terminal for tourism and transportation to the Eastern Mediterranean.

This region is in the northwest part of Italy. It is almost entirely surrounded by the Alps mountain range. It shares borders with France and Switzerland. Some prestigious wines are produced here, such as Barolo and Barbaresco. What is this region called?

Piedmont. Piedmont has an area of 25,399 kilometers squared. Turin, its capital city, is where the 2006 Winter Olympic Games were held. Some other cities are Cuneo, Asti, and Novara. Piedmont is also home to the FIAT automobile industry.

This is an Adriatic region in east-central Italy. Some important cities are Ancona, Pesaro and Urbino. This region is the seat the Ariston-Indesit industry, which produces many of Europe's home appliances. Which region is this?

Marche. Marche has an area of 9,694 kilometers squared. Ancona is the biggest city and the capital. Some notable companies, including Scavolini, a furniture specialty company, and Tod's, a well-known shoe brand, call this region home.

This is a region in southern Italy. Some significant places here are Naples, Salerno and Positano. Also, the island of Capri is part of this region. The very first pizza was reputedly produced here. What is the name of this region?

Campania. Campania has an area of 13,595 kilometers squared. Naples is the capital city. Campania was colonized by the Greeks during the 8th century BC. In 79 AD, in this region, Pompeii and Herculaneum were completely destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

This is a central Italian region, famous for Chianti wines and its olive oil. The Arno River passes through it. Famous cities include Florence, Pisa and Siena. What is this region called?

Tuscany. Tuscany has an area of 22,997 kilometers squared. The biggest city and capital is Florence, where the Renaissance began. You can find the birthplace of genius Leonardo da Vinci a few kilometres away from here, in a small town called Vinci. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a world-famous landmark located in this region.

This Italian region is also an island. It's a famous tourist destination. You can also find the ancient megalithic structures called "nuraghe" here. Which region is this?

Sardinia. Sardinia has an area of 24,090 kilometers squared. It's the second largest island on the Mediterranean Sea. Its capital city is Cagliari. The typical nuraghe has the shape of a conical tower, resembling a beehive. Also, the Sardine fish takes its name from this island.

We move to another northern Italian region now. It's famous for its food industry and its automobile factories. La Riviera Adriatica is a popular tourist destination. What is the name of this region?

Emilia-Romagna. Emilia-Romagna has an area of 22,124 kilometers squared. Its biggest city and capital is Bologna. Other important cities are: Parma, Modena, Rimini, Ravenna, Piacenza, and Ferarra. Parmigiana cheese and Barilla pasta are from this region. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Ducati are the well-known automobile companies from Emilia-Romagna.

Finally, the last Italian region is found in the northeast. You can see the Venetian Lagoon and the Po Delta here. Murano glass products are very famous exports from this region. Which of the following regions is it?

Veneto. Veneto has an area of 18,391 kilometers squared. Famous cities are Venice, Treviso, Verona, and Padova. A popular event held in this region is the Carnival of Venice. One notable feature of the carnival is the characteristic masks worn by people (similar to the Mardi Gras festival held annually in New Orleans, Louisiana).
