Fun Trivia: H : Hepburn, Katharine

Special Sub-Topic: Kate Hepburn!

Katharine Hepburn was born in what year?

1907. This was somewhat up for debate, thanks to agents and fools in Hollywood who love to play games with people's ages, until her death. She was born to a doctor and his wife in 1907.

Which of these best describes Katharine Hepburn's mother?
political activist. The elder Ms. Hepburn was quite the fighter for women's rights, marching rather boldly, for the time, for the suffragette movement. She was even courted to run for the senate because of her sturdy beliefs, quite a feat for a woman in the early 1900s.

Which of these, for sure, did Katharine Hepburn's older brother die of?
strangulation. This is a tricky one because he ended up hanged but no one knows whether it was intentional or an accident so we must rule out "suicide" as the final answer. Whatever happened, he did die of strangulation though.

Which of these men never appeared in a production with Katharine Hepburn?
Gregory Peck. Peck never got that privelege. Barrymore was in her first film, "A Bill Of Divorcement" (1932) and she starred with O'Neal later in life in a TV film. Her performance opposite Grant in "The Philadelphia Story" (1940) is well known.

Katharine Hepburn, in her last Oscar winning performance, did what?
jumped into the water and swam. "On Golden Pond" (1981): while in a hysteric moment, Kate's character dove off a boat in search of Norman (Henry Fonda). She found him and the little boy. That she could do all that in her 70s was pretty amazing.

How many of the actors/actresses in "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?" (1967) were nominated for Oscars?
    4. Hepburn won. Spencer Tracy, Beah Richards and Cecil Kellaway were nominated.

Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy never married, despite a long romance. What was the reason for that?
Tracy was Catholic and wouldn't divorce his wife. Spencer's son was deaf, not blind, and his belief in his faith made him unable to divorce his wife and marry Kate. Hepburn divorced her husband many years before she and Spencer met.

Did Katharine Hepburn ever have children?
no. It doesn't seem to have been a goal of hers to have children.

Which of these, in some way, can be linked to Katharine Hepburn?
all three of these. Lucille Ball appeared in "Stage Door" with Hepburn in 1937. Grace Kelly played Hepburn's character in a musical remake of "The Philadelphia Story" in 1956 and Kate Mulgrew, once a staple on "Ryan's Hope", is now playing a one-woman show reflecting on Katharine's life.

Katharine Hepburn won 4 Oscars for Best Actress. In those 4 films, how many of her leading men were nominated for Best Actor and how many of them won for those pictures she got hers for?
3 nominated; 1 won. In her winning films the only one not to get a Best Actor nomination was her first, "Morning Glory" (1933). Spencer Tracy in "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?" (1967) and Peter O'Toole in "The Lion In Winter" (1968) were up for the award but did not win it. Henry Fonda won opposite her for "On Golden Pond". There will never likely be anyone like Kate Hepburn ever again. I hope you enjoyed this quiz in her memory.
