    Nancy and Thomas. Nancy Hanks and Thomas Lincoln were the parents. Anne and William were the Shakespeares; Anne and Charles were the Lindberghs. Sally and Thomas is a reference to Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemmings.

Lincoln's mother died young. What was the cause of her death?
    'Milk Sickness'. 'Milk Sickness' apparently occurs when cows eat poisonous plants and pass the poison along (via their milk) to humans. Ann Rutledge, alleged to be Lincoln's 'true love', died of what was then called 'brain fever'.

What happened to Lincoln after the death of his mother?
    His father remarried. Thomas re-married and Lincoln had a step-mother, Sarah. Apparently, Lincoln and Sarah got along quite well.

Who was Lincoln's closest friend from his days as a young man?
    Joshua Speed. Speed was a very close friend, although the friendship weakened after both married. Denis Hanks was Lincoln's cousin. John Hay was a biographer of Lincoln who served with him in the government during Lincoln's presidency.

    Her marriage to Lincoln was marred by her infidelity. Poor Mary went through quite a lot in her life. She suffered from chronic headaches (and from {depression); she could also be vindictive and unforgiving. She also antagonized many by her spendthrift ways. There was, however, never any charge or suspicion of infidelity.

    Each lost a parent while young. Each lost a mother while young: Lincoln was nine and Mary was seven. Mary was from a decidedly more affluent and social background than Lincoln. Lincoln, of course, was tall and {thin;} Mary was short and a bit 'plump'.

    Easter. He was shot on Good Friday and died on Saturday. The following day was Easter Sunday.
