Fun Trivia: G : Greek Myth

Special Sub-Topic: Minor Greek Characters

I am a famous Bee-keeper. One day, I met a beautiful girl named Eurydice and chased her. She fled from me, and in the process she got bitten by a snake. Her husband, Orpheus, wasn't too happy with me. Who am I?

Aristaeus. Aristaeus was the man who chased Eurydice. As for the wrong answers, Melampus was the man that could listen to animals, Asclepius is the doctor, and Calydipus is a name I made up.

My brother Telamon and I killed our half-brother, Phocus. I am also famous because I married a very famous nereid. Who am I?
Peleus. Peleus was married to Thetis, and his wedding was ruined when Eris threw the golden apple. Pelias was the uncle of Jason, it's just a name that sounds alike. Atreus was the father of Agamemnon and Menelaus, and Labdascus was the king of Thebes, father of Laius.

True or false? Iphigenia was the youngest sister of Orestes.
    f. Iphigenia was actually the oldest sister of Orestes. His youngest was Electra - but she was still older than he.

Who were the parents of Pegasus?
Poseidon and Medusa. Poseidon and Medusa had made love inside the temple of Athena. As punishment, Athena turned Medusa into a monster. When Perseus cut off the head of Medusa, Pegasus sprung out of her head. Why he was a flying horse, I do not know.

What was the name of the hero who killed Paris?
Philoctetes. Paris was shot with an arrow by Philoctetes not long before the end of the Trojan war. Menelaus did not kill Paris, which is a mistake many people make. During the taking of Troy, Menelaus slew Deiphobus, Achilles had been dead for a year, and Ajax the lesser was only famous for raping Princess Cassandra.

Andromache was originally married to Hector. After the Trojan War, she became the wife of Neoptolemus, until he was killed by Orestes. Now, who was her third and final husband?
Helenus. Andromache later married Hector's brother, Helenus, the last surviving son of Priam and Hecuba. This is mentioned in Euripides' play, "Andromache". She definitely did not marry Molossus, who was her son. Orestes married Hermione, which was the reason he killed Neoptolemus in the first place; and Peleus was the husband of Thetis.

I was raped by Apollo as a young girl, and I abandoned my newborn son, Ion. Who am I?
Creusa. Creusa abandoned Ion, and later reconciled with him when he was a young man.

Why did Apollo have to work for Admetus, the king of Athens, for an entire year?
He killed the Cyclops. After Zeus had killed Apollo's son Asclepius, Apollo didn't dare avenge his son's death by attacking Zeus, so he decided to slay the Cyclops instead. As for the wrong answers: he would never touch one of his own muses; he didn't get into an argument with Zeus; and he never helped Hera punish any of Zeus' lovers.

Which is not a child of Zeus?
Theseus. Theseus' parents were Aethra and Aegeus or Aethra and Poseidon, depending on the version. Perseus was Zeus' child with Danae, Helen was Zeus' child with Leda, and Polydeuces was Zeus' child with Leda as well.

I, Polynices, fought my twin brother Eteocles for the rightful throne of Thebes. What is the name of the war we fought?
The Seven Against Thebes. The answer is the "Seven Against Thebes". Polynices and Eteocles were twin brothers and children of Oedipus and Jocasta. (Jocasta was their grandmother too)
