Special Sub-Topic: My Heather O'Rourke Tribute

In what month was Heather born?

December. Little Heather O'Rourke was born on December 27th, 1975 to Kathleen O'Rourke. She was born in San Diego, CA at 12:28 AM, where she lived for most of her life. She was born a fraternal twin, her twin brother dying in the womb.

What was Heather's first job?
Some modeling. Heather's professional career started at the ripe old age of three, when she modeled for Mattel's "Tuff Stuff" Number Blocks. She did many other commercials after that. "Poltergeist" wasn't released until 1982 and "Happy Days" didn't happen until after that.

How did Steven Spielberg "discover" Heather?
At MGM. The story goes, one day Heather was alone in the MGM Commissary, waiting for her mother to pick her up, when she caught director Steven Spielberg's eye. He approached her, asking her name, to which she replied "My name is Heather O'Rourke. But you're a stranger, and I can't talk to you". Steven then waited for Kathleen O'Rourke to come pick up her daughter, so he could introduce himself and invite Heather out to audition for his film, "Poltergeist" (1982). This was in 1981 - Heather had just turned five.

What of these did Heather NOT say?
"Yep, yep, yep!". Heather said all of these things, except for "Yep, yep, yep!", a quote which belongs to murdered child actress, Judith Barsi. Heather said "they're back!" in "Poltergeist II" (1986), and said the other two things in interviews. The only exceptions to her "I never watch horror movies as a rule" were, of course, the "Poltergeist" films.

What was the name of the "Happy Days" episode that Heather first appeared in?
"A Woman Not Under the Influence". Heather's first episode of "Happy Days", called "A Woman Not Under the Influence", first aired on September 28th, 1982. It was also the first episode of the 10th season of "Happy Days". Heather played the young character of Heather Pfister. "Hello, Pfisters" and "I'm Not at Liberty" were other episodes of the twelve "Happy Days" episodes that Heather appeared in, and "They're Here" was simply me making something up.

What was her character's name in the "Poltergeist" films?
Carol Anne. Her character's name was Carol Anne Freeling, a little girl who became the target for supernatural entities. Heather's middle name was Michele, making the name Heather Michele, and I just made up the other two names.

What 1985 project was Heather supposed to appear in, but backed out due to salary conflicts?
Alice in Wonderland. Heather got the part of Alice in Harry Harris's "Alice in Wonderland" (1985). They had just barely began production when the studio was forced to lower Heather's salary, due to budget cuts. Heather then backed out of the film, the salary not being as high as Heather's family would have liked. The part of Alice then went to actress Natalie Gregory, who had to wear a blonde wig for the role of Alice.

What did Heather think of the finished "Poltergeist III" (1988)?
She never saw it. Heather was on hiatus from filming "Poltergeist III" (1988) when she suddenly got very, very sick and died. For the remaining scenes, they had to use a blonde stand-in, and only show the back of the character's head, so the viewer would be able to buy into the illusion that Carol Anne was the same girl throughout the film.

What were Heather's last words?
"I love you". On the morning of February 1st, 1988, Heather fainted at home after having flu-like symptoms - her mother knew then that Heather obviously did not have the flu. The paramedics soon arrived and put Heather in the ambulance. Whilst in the ambulance, rushing to the hospital, Heather told her mother "I love you" to which Kathleen O'Rourke replied with "I love you, too." Roughly seven hours later, little Heather suffered a cardiac arrest and died on the operating table. She was only twelve. On Heather's official death certificate, it says the cause of her death was "cardiopulmonary arrest due to intestinal stenosis".

What did Heather consider her greatest achievement in life?
Being president of her 5th grade class. Whilst Heather could certainly be proud of all those achievements, she was proudest of being elect the student body president of her 5th grade in 1985, according to Heather's mother. Heather was buried on February 5th, 1988, at Westwood Memorial Park in San Diego, CA. Buried nearby are author Truman Capote and musician Mel Tormé.
