The star of the 1932 Games was Mildred Didriksen, who competed in three events, and won two gold and one silver medals. In which events did she win gold?

    Javelin and 80 metre hurdles. Mildred, known as 'Babe', won the javelin and the 80 metre hurdles both in Olympic records. She also won the silver in the high jump. She later became a famous golfer, playing under her married name of Zaharias.

Which country won the 1932 hockey tournament, beating the U.S.A. 24-1 along the way?
    India. India won their second consecutive hockey gold medal, but the U.S. finished with the bronze medal, their only medal in this sport during the 20th century. Japan won the silver.

In rowing, the United States won the double sculls for the fifth consecutive Olympics. How many years before they won this event again?
    52. It was 1984 before they won the double sculls again, also in Los Angeles.

The 400 metre hurdles was won by Robert Tisdall of Ireland, in a world record time. But because he knocked down a hurdle, the world record was given to the runner-up, Glenn Hardin, of U.S.A.

    100 and 200 metres. Tolan won the 100 and 200 metres, both in Olympic Games record times.

The notable fact about the four diving events was that the U.S.A. won all 12 medals awarded.
    T. The men's springboard was won by Michael Galitzen, the men's high diving by Harold Smith, the women's springboard by Georgia Coleman and the women's platform by Dorothy Poynton. Galitzen, Smith and Coleman also won silver medals.

    Japan. Japan surprised the swimming world by this feat, as the United States had previously dominated Olympic swimming. But in these Games, the U.S. men won only four medals in total.

Ellen Preis won the gold medal for the women's individual foil fencing competition in 1932, and remarkably was still fencing at the 1956 Games, where she finished 7th. What country was she from?
    Austria. Ellen also won bronze medals in the foil event in 1936 and 1948 and was world champion in 1947, 1949 and 1950.

    Italy. U.S.A. won 41 gold 32 silver & 30 bronze. Italy won 12 of each colour medal, while France won 10 golds and Sweden 9. Finland won only 5 golds, but were third in total medals (25) behind the U.S. and Italy.
