Who is the girl that never eats lunch at school?

Owl. Owl nevers eats lunch at school (except for once) because she wants to avoid people finding out her secret. And really, who wants to see someone eat a mouse whole anyway?

Dawn is on a diet, which she is faithful to.

f. Dawn says she should go on a diet, but she just can't. She eats a lot, and even lies to her mother about eating.

Houle is in a psychiatric ward, and even thinks he might possibly be insane.

t. Poor Houle was locked up by his parents, thinking he was insane, when really he was just doing what instinct told him to do. He sometimes thought that he might just be insane.

Owl's ____ starts acting strange and a bit jealous around Owl after she reveals that she is in love with Mr. Lindstorm.

Father & Dad. Owl's father acts jumpy and strange around her after finding out she is in love. He is also a bit jealous, which Owl's mother explains is normal for a father.

Who is Owl's tired, worried, and old science teacher?

Mr. Lindstorm. Mr. Lindstorm is not only Owl's science teacher, but the love of her life as well.

Who is the "Wailing Woman"?

Mr. Lindstorm's wife. Owl sees a mysterious figure in Mr. Lindstorm's backyard. The woman was weeping (hints the "Wailing Woman"), and Owl thought that she might be a ghost, since she was wearing white and was crying.

Who is the strange boy in the forest, who thinks that he is well read?

Houle. Houle thinks that he may be mad, but at least he's well read.

Dawn's father is an attentive and strict person, who pays close attention to everything.

f. Dawn's dad doesn't pay attention. After her mother told her not to go outside for a walk, Dawn nonchalantly tells her father, who is watching tv, that she is going for a walk, and he lets her go.

_____ finally decides she is not in love with Mr. Lindstorm, and was only waiting for his son to come along.

Owl. Owl says that since Houle wasn't there, she doted on the next best thing, which was Mr. Lindstorm.

As it turns out, Dawn was not in love with Mr. Lindstorm, which is what Owl thought. Who was Dawn really in love with?

Steve. At the end of the book, Dawn reveals that if Owl had paid more attention, she would know that she was in love with Steve, who, although he was a bit dorky, was still nice.
